The base that my old dish sat on was 2 metres by 2 metres and 5 inches thick with a solid 90cm pole sticking out of it so i do know it will hold a bigger dish, and yes i am working on a tight budget at the moment

Assuming your base is concrete, you have just under 18 cubic feet in it. According to my calculations for wind load on a 2.4m dish there is sufficient weight of concrete to withstand some strong winds.
Put it like this, if the king post, mount and dish are secured in place correctly to the base then they aint going anywhere.

Good luck with the project.

I thought the 6.6" pole was just about right for the 2.4m Channel Master, but 90cms ?

Ask "Zudrick" if you have any reservations about what pole he plans to use. I was only commenting on the volume of concrete being suitable for anchorage.

Perhaps he will use another pole, they are easy to secure to concrete pads using threaded bar and chemical resin.
The Prodelin 2.4m dish and the Suncom 3.0m cassegrain dishes I use are on poles secured to concrete pads using threaded bar and chemical resin, its an easy job to do.

Chemical resin is what I used here to anchor both my dishes down to my concrete area with studding...superb stuff...

+1.
It is very strong, one point to note is to get as much of the dust as possible out of the holes drilled into the concrete pad before using the resin.

Let's hope "zudrick" manages to source a dish suitable for his needs, it will be good to follow his progress if he decides to document the installation on the forum.

Indeed MB, I used a Henry Vacuum cleaner with a bit of plastic 15mm pipe and sucked out any residue dust...

Thought you was asking how long the bar is, the bar is around 10cm diameter and sticks out of the concrete base 4ft

Four inches in old money. Not enough for a 2.4m SMC dish, but might be OK for the Chinese steel reflectors of a few years ago.

If you can find a motor mount that fits.

At 4ft high you might find that you do not have enough ground clearance to mount an offset focus 2.4m dish unless you mount it inverted.
The LNB boom arm could foul the ground for satellites at the edge of your arc range.

If ground clearance is an issue and you do not wish to mount an offset focus dish inverted you can always use a pole extender to add more height.
It should be a fairly simple job to get a local workshop to weld a pole extender together.

I have attached a picture below of a pole adapter I had made up by a local welder, you could get the upper section sized to fit the dish mount.
All that's needed are two sections of round steel tube and a piece of steel plate.

Did someone mention big dish for £100 ? What about the polar mount and the cost of the concrete plus if you want to cover 54 east to 45 west your talking about a 36 inch jack .
