My Satellite Setup
Dish, splitter box, panasonic receiver
My Location
portugal
I live near lisbon in portugal

on our appartment roof there is a 1.8 or 2 metre dish (i do ot have access to this)
In out apartment roof there is what appears to be a splitter box (separates to individual appts)
There are several black wires and one white wire (coax) coming from the box to different appartments
We have the white cable (sky) coming to ours
Inside the apartment i have had to join the coaxes together (this may not be 100% perfect connection)
This then runs to my panasonic sky digi box and then via scart to the tv
we also have portuguese cable, dvd and video running to TV

The problem is i get sky channels occasionaly (ITV, BBC particulrly - which is what i want), but its more off than on

saturday for example we had sky for about 4 or 5 hours with out any problems, then after flicking channels a few times the red light on the box froze (remote control light) and then when i re started the box we had no signal, it worked ok for about an hour on tuesday and again on wednesday and again on saturday for a few hours.

the coax is old (atleast 5 years maybe older), would that cause the problems

what other things should i look at

I am no expert on this sort of thing

other appartments dont have it (all portuguese familys)

so is it worth getting a full length of coax and running it from the splitter straight to my box

Are the Portuguese families using the dish at all? I think you would be better off going from your box straight to the dish and by pass that spaghetti junction.

I'm gonna bet that your digibox is a Pansonic TU-DSB30. Am I right?

If so the annoying lock-ups are due to a software update that Sky made about 18months ago that knacked them all up for fringe reception (they are fine in the UK).

The only way around this problem I'm afraid is to throw it away and get a Pace 2600. Also check out http://www.astra2d.com/portugal.htm to see what reception you should be getting for this dish size. The type of LNB is also important!

Hope that is of some help

Cheers

I had the same problem in my apartment. The only way I could get around this was to ask permission to put my own dish up on the roof and have my own individual cable leads directly to my apartment. I have a used Grundig GDS 2000 which has been working fine. Try e.bay for used digiboxes(eg. the Pace 2600 or the DS430N are great for fringe reception), and if no one is using the dish, just ask for permission from the tentants and try to get a straight lead right to your apt. I would be good to know what LNB is installed.
