I had this as a present for Christmas. +Yesterday I set it up on my desk and had a play. Yes it works a treat but to me the only advantage is I can use it on the roof whilst setting up the dish. Saves going up and down and getting the misdirection from the Overseer when trying to align the dish on the intercom. But it does not have an oscilloscope. Not really necessary but if, as I understand from the dedicated sat freaks, it is a must. Overseer heard me say that's a pity and said she would send it back and get one I wanted. Maybe I will but a decent one with an oscilloscope is much more expensive.

The benefit of a real time spectrum, (not a sweeper) is you can see the satellite and recognize it without having signal lock. But meters with real time spectrum cost 500+ GBP.

Other way is an enigma2 receiver and a mobile phone app that displays SNR. These days there are plenty of enigma2 receivers below 100 GBP.

Is there any way to increase the screen brightness on the V8? I was playing with one this afternoon and the screen is virtually impossible to read even on a moderately nice afternoon

I don't think there's a setting for brightness. I just use the case to block the sunlight.
