In fairness he has made no secret of who he is (a bit more secret now because I removed the home site from the profile), he has a point of view and perhaps an axe to grind. It sure has brought up some lively discussion though. ;)

I've never been called two faced Mr Branson. You know exactly where I stand.

I agree. Bradle01 has every right to air his views and protect his profession. I was wanting to show a clear view of the scene for people maybe not in the know, so that they can make an informed opinion of what is going on.

Two faced, well, I never meant that to be understood.

Thank you philip24.

Just a point about TWOF. That also came up at the Bar meeting in London last April. And the EU are considering it along with all aspects of the various Directives.

Yes i do subscribe to Sky Italia, and Dutch TV(ftv)
Luckly i have a house in both countries, which makes this possible.
For all you Italian speakers, there is a lot of discussion on the Italian
websites regarding the SECA hack issue which is very interesting.
There is also a great deal on the Dutch websites for Dutch speakers.

Hi Mate,

I am sure you are annoyed with the loss of income your firm incurs every time a hacker cracks a new encryption and to a certain extent I understand your pain. However, you yourself a bordering on the boundaries of the law by selling Euro cards in the UK. These cards are sold to individuals in that country, for use in that country only and not for transfer to other countries. If you are Italian and you have brought it with you for your own personal use I am sure you would be fine but given that you are selling them as a business you are playing with fire, as much as the next person. All sat sites state that files are for educational purposes only and must be deleted within 24 hours. I dont assume you set up people with cards for European services and ask them to give them back to you after 24 hours.

Bending the rules, I am sure most people on here are guilty of it. Making a profit from it? Not seeing anyone doing that apart from you......

Best Regards,

PP

Interesting point, but I don't bend EU rules - I stick to them, which is more than I can say for rightsholders who impose non-EU contracts on broadcasters, and (dare I mention it again - please don't throw too many bricks, everybody) hackers who breach (in the U.K.) the Conditional Access Regulations 2000 by downloading (note, not using) ANY illicit software, be it for satellite, games, computer stuff, DVD, CD's etc, even for "educational purposes" which, I venture to say, would not stand up in a court anywhere in the EU.

There is an interesting (and I am told, true) story from one of the Baltic states. (I heard it at the EU conference in Stockholm from a lawyer from the country's Min of Justice, so I guess it's true). So I am told, some years ago, a leading video hire shop chain there met with a certain well-known purveyor of children's entertainment, and tried to get sensible (Baltic) prices out of the company in question to distribute their videos (then, now of course DVD's).

The company in question tried to impose its standard price structure only to be told that the per capita income in that country did not justify such prices.

The company left without a deal having refused to budge, and the Baltic entrepreneur headed for Stockholm where he bought up as many of the said company's products as possible and copied them for sale in his own country.

The company took the entrepreneur to court - and LOST. The ruling made it clear that market forces should dictate price, and that if the company had allowed market forces to do so, and the entrepreneur had then sent them away and pirated the videos the decision would have gone the other way.

The interesting point is that the country in question joins the EU on 1 May this year. If they had been a member then, the rules now might have been different for all of us.

Sobering thought. eh!!

bradle01, very fine sentiments, yes. In an ideal world, we'd all have the money to pay the 30 quid/month to $ky for the full package. Also, in an ideal world, $ky wouldn't rip off customers by cross-subsidising hardware with monthly subs so that, just as with mobile phones, you pay far more than is actually fair to cover $ky's costs and profits.

You also forget that for many of us, yes, it's a game. There's a thrill in getting it all to work. Many of us have been into this since the days of old analogue stuff like d2mac when it was more witchcraft than science!!

Yes, I have a cam. But for the cost of a full $ky subs I can buy more DVDs than I have time to watch, and I could rent a movie from blockbuster every other day, in fact for the actual amount of TV I watch I can buy more DVDs than I'd have time for.

So, anyone care to part-ex an old freecam for an MR or Dragon?
