Hi,

I live in Mauritius. I wanted to know if the SES 4 at 22.0 W is available for mauritius, most particularly i am looking for the Canal satellite Afrique package which is in the west africa beam. I had a look at SES website, i can see that mauritius, is just outside the footprints. Its very close to the 43 dbW footprint.

here is a link to the SES west africa beam footprint from ses's website. - https://sat.ses.com/webservice/images/7404121

Mauritius is the small dot on the left side of the 0 degrees elevation angle line.

Can someone comment on if its possible to get the signals using a larger satellite dish such as a 150cm dish?

I would suspect that you have a fair chance with a 1.5m dish, but fringe reception is not very predictable and the proof of the pudding is in the eating, hopefully someone in Mauritius with a 1.5m dish will see this topic.:)

Your biggest problem is going to be the low elevation. Unless you live up a hill or have a clear line of sight out to your north west you may well find that there is an obstruction in the way.

Any one who has been in the same boat as i am can suggest me anything?
There's a lot of tree and houses on the west.. i guess i am out of luck..
Is it worthwhile to invest in a 1m50 dish to try it out?

Only you can answer if buying a 1.5m dish is worthwhile.

Have a look at dishpointer.com - that will give you an idea of where the signals are coming from in relation to your location.

However if the trees / houses are close by then you wont be able to see the signals.

Even if you have sight to SES 4, with 3 degrees elevation, expect deep fades that can hardly be eliminated with a bigger dish.
Just curious, why not go for the strong and obvious CanalSat Réunion on 16 East?

Well i do have a subscription from canal sat reunion on 16 east. But the problem is for Mauritius, the adult channels are not available due to the laws in Mauritius. I know someone who can help me buy a subscription from canal sat afrique that is why i want to cancel my subscription with 16 east.

I forgot to mention some more info- along with pr0n, Canal sat Reunion shows a black screen for events such as F1, some tennis matches, a lot of tv series is not shown without forgetting the spannish liga. They argue that they do not have the right to show these events in Mauritius. The Bein sport channel 1 and 2 is shown in Reunion island but not in Mauritius, they argue they do not have the rights. But Canal sat afrique does show all the events i mentioned above.

I am really frustrated, not because of pr0n.. but mostly due to not being able to watch the sports which i like.

I suspect Internet in Mauritius may not be of as high a quality as it is in Europe...And most of it is metered/capped.

I bet it's faster than North Yorkshire rural ADSL (Currently a majestic 0.49 Mbps).
