Hi
I am new to the forum and I am looking for some help regarding an issue I have in trying to receive Setanta Sports 1 and Setanta Sports 2. I subscribed to both channels and I was receiving them okay until yesterday and now the picture is freezing and distorted. Does anybody have any idea as to what may be the problem ? I can receive all my other SKY channels okay.

what receiver are you using?

If its your offical sly box...try unplugging and re plugging.

My receiver is a Grundig GDS200....

Unfortunately unplugging and restarting the receiver didn't solve the issue.

customer of mine has the same problem.He phoned sky and they claimed many customers have same problem but they didn't have an immediate solution.It has been suggested to me by someone in the know that sky are deliberately messing setanta about to elliminate any competition!!
Rumour is that setanta are in trouble.'O'-red

What a load of cobblers :D

Setanta is carried on Eurobird 1, With all the bad weather recently any marginally misaligned dishes are likely suffer breakup on Eurobird 1 first as its not located with the Astra 2's

Have just subscribed to Setanta on Satellite (Sky system) and having similar problems on main channels but have been receiving Liverpool, Arsenal etc channels OK, last 2 days have been receiving "Tech fault" or "No Satellite signal" messages, in the last few minutes I am now getting a signal but it is very weak and breaking up a lot. Remaining Sky channels are perfect so it can't be a weather related problem. I think maybe Garretthen could be right and Sky are deliberately trying to sabotage Setanta, does anyone know how Setanta transmit their signals to Astra, do they use Sky's system or their own?

Rubbish - Sky wouldnt sabotage another companys channels. 1Can you imagine the negative publicity and the fines they would get when found out?

Look at post #5 - from me. The info there is just as likely to be true now as it was when I posted it a year ago.

yet others are ok?

OK maybe your right, BUT why not try to provide a considered reason as to why the 2 main Setanta sports channels have such poor reception whereas their other channels are satisfactory as are all other satellite channels on my system. I hardly think it would be in Setantas interest to limit their signal on their flagship channels, do you??!!

Look out for LNB problems. I have had a few 2.4 and 3.1M dishes showing problems with Setanta. The frequencies for Setanta are very high up at 12460 (or something - not looking it up and cant remember) but the lower band stuff was ok. Change of LNB sorted them all out.

To those with problems look on Lyngsat and check other channels around the same frequency and bet they are all the same.

I have also had a dodgy projector sending a strange voltage back to the box causing loss of some channels - but this was the lower stuff BBC, ITV etc

Hi, I am offshore, North and West of the Shetland Islands. Setanta worked ok last year but now I am sufering from very poor signal levels, mostly non-existant. Have they changed the footprint? Is there anywhere I can find this information out?

It's not just satellite peeps.

A friend of mine subscribes to Sultana :-rofl2 via Freeview and has complained about the poor picture quality on the channels. Even on Freeview the picture is breaking up and sound distorted. Watching the football earlier in the week was a nightmare and we gave up in the end. I thought it was his aerial but because he has a decent receiver it showed the signal strength and was about 65% with other channels slightly lower in %'age than this and were fine. It's been happening for about a fortnight now.

Also, I'd love to know how "Sky" would sabotage the channel when they have nothing to do with it, no control over the transponder that it's carried on etc etc ?

The transponder used is 12560H however, all the vertical channels on that transponder are coming in loud and clear including Euronews, JML, Bubble Hits, Wedding TV +1 and the 2x Travel Channels with no break up at all.

Thanks for the feedback. So, excuse my ignorance, but what is my next course of action? It seems to me that, as we are paying Setanta thousands for this service they should be doing something to put it right as it looks like it is not just a local problem. Am I wasting my time trying to complain to Setanta?

I have a WELL SET UP dish supplying plenty of signal to my dreambox.

I dont have any reception problems at all with 12560H

Im getting
SNR79%
AGR86%
BER 0

on Setanta Sports.

Ergo theres nothing wrong with the Setanta transmissions via satellite and its your installation causing the problems. Thus its your responsibility to get it sorted not Setanta's

Hi,

I thought as much. I don't think there is anything wrong with the set up, all the other channels that we subscribe to are coming in loud and clear. As I said originally, I am wondering if we are on the fringe of the footprint for Setanta up here? You might be getting a good signal down in the Scottish borders but, we are probably about 500 miles further North. I intend trying to line the dish up on that one channel using the Promax meter and hope that we do not lose all the other signals, once I get permission and a permit to work to go inside the dome. If only it was as simple as playing with a dish bolted to the side of the house.

What size dish are you using?? 12560H is carried on the Eurobird 1 fixed beam, and whilst Shetland is outside the highest power downlink area:

Hi, thanks for your help on this. The dish is 1.2 mtrs diameter inside a fibreglass dome. I have now discovered that one of my receivers is a Pace DS430N and it is receiving the signal ok, though we are not subscribing to Setanta on that card/box yet. I have now talked to our service provider and they are talking to Sky to get our subscription transferred to this card/box. 16 of the other boxes are Panasonic and the remaining is a Pace DS440N, none of these is picking up the signal from Setanta. We are about 50 miles North and West of the Shetlands, unlike most of the other plaforms which are North and East of the Shetlands. Regards - Stewart

Blimey there should be plenty of signal on a 1.2 m!

My DB7020 is currently connected to an offset lnb lashed onto a 1m dish pointing at 16E and I get loads of signal on Setanta!

The Sky box is on a 60 cm ex analogue round dish now perched on a couple of fence posts down the garden..

Over the last 3 weeks I have talked with several Setanta customer service staff and all of them have advised that the Setanta signal is weaker than the normal Sky channels, at their choice, and that it utilises the same satellite as Sky and Sky manage the transmission, and they have no current intention to increase signal strength.
My dish is the standard Sky digital equipment, 60cm I think, and picks up every other channel perfectly satisfactorily, so I can only assume that it is the weaker signal that is causing the problem.
My location is West Yorkshire so I should be smack bang in the middle of the satellite signal footprint.
Like others on this thread my signal is at best very weak with picture break up and distorted sound, and at worst no signal at all.
I have written to Setanta requesting cancellation of my subscription and a full refund of the initial payment. I am still waiting for their response.
