Hi All,

I just set up my motor today its using USALS. I aligned to 1w (which I think is the sat closest to south as its one degree from south). I can get all the east sats fine, as well as the atlantic birds and telstar 12 satellites west of me. I cannot get a signal at all on 30w :(

I have tried aligning to 30w but then I can only get 15w and 30w. Can anyone help?

I did notice something when setting up my dish, I set the motor up how it said, (with my latitude set on the side) but the dish was pointing way too low, even when the dish elevation was set as high as it could go!

So I adjusted that until I could get 1w.

Why doesnt it work? I have set my latitude and longitude in the USALS setup :confused

Can anyone help - its greatly appreciated

C.Barber :)

If your mounting pole is absolutely vertical then your motor elevation is out,
and you are adjusting your decliation on the dish in an attempt to compensate.

Have you been through the stickies in this section ??

my pole should be perfectly straight. I have been through some of the stickies. What do I need to do to fix this? As I say, when I aligned the motor elevation to my latitude, even with the dish elevation up as high as it goes, it still looked as if it was pointing too low down

Which motor have you got?
Some have both latitude and elevation on them .
If your latitude is 52+ (as you are near to me).
Your Elevation is 37+.

You beat me to it

its set on latitude 46degrees

Its supposed to be on 52degree but then the dish points too low down

Hi Jumbuck in Felixstowe! I have a STAB-USALS HH90 motor - same as you except the model 90

It has a setting on the side for latitude but I dont see one for elevation, it says adjust the dish elevation in the book and it gives a value of 37degree for it on the map at the back of the book

I've just read the handbook do as it says set your motor elevation to 52 and a bit and your dish to 32ish.
I do hate those motors with the dish fixing stub hanging down, but that is just me.

OK let's go.
Having set up motorised dishes here and up in Hemsby I find the easiest way, as we are east of due south is as follows.
You have your dish and motor on the pole, I put a jubilee clip round the pole so that the motor can rest upon it. Nip up the motor bolts until you can just rotate it on the pole. Set your receiver to USALS, put in your latitude and longitude and drive to 1*W. Set the receiver to 11325H, 24500 (BBC World). Swing the motor with dish attached until you pick up a signal. Tweak the elevation of the dish and position on the pole for maximum signal/quality level. Tighten everthing up. That is it, all the other satellites that you are capable of seeing and receiving should then drop into the correct place.

ok so it doesnt matter about the latitude on the motor, as long as I can get a signal on 1w it will work on the others?

Ive just had a thought, I think my dish elevation thing is round the wrong way - its upside down to this:

Leave the motor set to 52+ latitude. I presume you have had your dish, in the past, on THor? if so just set it to that angle, slightly back from vertical or about 42 degrees then and try that.
Silly question, but have you got the dish mounting stub the correct way round? I've never used the model that you have.

I have the small pole thing the right way round yes.

I cant get my dish high enough, with the motor at 52+ latitude, to get anything at all, it just wont go high enough. I am starting to tihnk that my dish elevation bracket is the wrong way round.

When I first got the dish, I got someone to set it up for me, as I couldnt get anything with it. He mentioned to me that the bracket was round the wrong way which is why I couldnt get anything. He also sayed "the other one is round the wrong way too but it will still work ok"

My Dish elevation wont go high enough with the motor set at 52+ latitude and the bit where the bolt slides along where the measurements are for the dish elevation are at the top, wheras in the manual the picture of the dish has it round the other way at the bottom
