yups, correct, but as stated by analoguesat, if its a white card, keep an eye on its temperature: they run hot in an dm500 and some reports of card burning (not literally, but 'technically')

either way, all dreamboxes internal readers feed the card 5v whereas the new cards operate at 3.3V (or 3.something)
which means they will run hotter

in a dm800, which as it is runs very hot, the chances are the card will be even hotter, especially if you stick in an internal hard disk as well

If I were to step down the voltage on the card feed in DB to say 3.5v, would I lose any of the cards/boxes functionality ?

"in a dm800 you can use external card readers like omni and smago but in dm500 just use internal card reader because smargo and omni not compatible"
Is this correct?
