Signal loss with diseqc switch

Hello again. I'm using a diseqc switch with the dish in port 'B' pointing to 13 East. When I aligned the dish without the switch connected I was getting 91% signal strength for Hotbird and all the channels were coming up fine. However having connected the dish to the switch (a Global one) the signal reduces dramatically to about 64% (just above the threshold for a picture) and quite a few channels are lost - for example I can get TPS but no Multivision.

My receiver is diseqc compatible and I have Hotbird set to 'Port 2'. Is this signal loss normal and how could I remedy it?

So there's no way of improving the signal with the switch connected (other than buying a bigger dish)? I thought there would be a little signal loss but not this much.

You normally get some insertion loss but not as much as that.
Have you tried re making the ends with longer centre connections ?

Thanks for the reply. You mean making more of the central copper wire come out of top of the F-connectors?

Tried making the central wire longer but still no luck. Signal pretty much the same. Any more ideas?

I've currently got Astra 2 on the 'A' port and the signal has dropped from 100% to about 90%, although that may be partly due to the fact that the Astra 2 dish is about 6 metres from the switch (the Hotbird dish is only 1 metre from the switch). I'll try the Hotbird dish on the 'A' port tomorrow evening and see what happens.

Thanks for your help so far.
