I've just bought SKY+ and am intending to get a DVD recorder to Copy from the hard disk using the Copy function of Sky+. There seem to be conflicting messages and articles on doing this around many forums - anyone know of limitations or configurations you need to use to do this...

Cheers

I have a Panny DMR-E50 connected to Sky+ using s-video and RCA. Works like a charm.

I do manually archive the programmes to DVD-R and manually remove the ad breaks. If you got a DVD-HD machine, you could edit the ads out in a different way.

I've seen no conflicts or problems.

Thanks Leee, I was intending to use standard Scart leads as per current VCR but it seems these don't work particularly well.

IIRC there's no RGB-out on the video scart. Plus I find scarts to be clunky chunky cables and use them as little as possible.

Most DVD recorders have s-video out too, I have that connecting the recorder to my amp, for playback of non-finalised and RAM disks. The rest go into my other DVD player which is also connected via s-video to my amp....

I usually record 4 hours to DVD-R and then finalise to DVD-V and it's more than adequate.

If you pump out a 90 minute movie in Flexible Record mode (ie. using the whole DVD to record 90 minutes) then you'll hardly notice any quality loss.
