Hi i have a pace sky digital box(model number BSKYB 250083) which is connected to a smallsky digital dish(think 60cm) and i have recently been donated a dish from a friend who is moving houses(this dish is also another sky digital 60cm dish)

i was wondering what is the best satellite to point at(and how to find it) and what channels am i likely to recieve???

I'm a complete newbie at this but have been asking the same questions as you. It's possible you may have the 45cm Sky dish? To find the satellites you will need a sat finder (don't try having your wife in the garden pointing the dish up at the sky, it doesn't work!)
Try this site to see what's on the satellites http://www.lyngsat.com
With the 45cm dish I doubt you'll get anything with the 60cm Hotbird (13e)seems to be OK from what I've seen on other posts but a bigger dish is recommended.
I hope this info is correct I'm sure some of the more experianced sat experts will correct me if I'm wrong. I've learnt loads since finding this forum thanks to the regulars.

To be honest the digibox is best used for receiving the transmissions of 28E, especially if you have a suitable card to receive the FTV channels (ITV, C4 and Five) as well all the FTA channels such as BBC1, BBC2 etc.

You can use the Add Channels feature to watch some of the channels on other satellites but it's tricky to use and sometimes the box "forgets" what you've stored!

If you like you can use a satellite switch with a suitable dish/LNB setup so that 28E is normally received and 19E or 13E is used occasionally for selected channels. I've done exactly this for a friend so that he can watch Bloomberg and BBC World on 13E from time to time.

See, now you're GIVING the advice... COOL!

P.S. You're right, getting your wife to stand in the garden waving a dish around doesn't get you any more channels, but in my experience it does give you enough time to slip out down the pub for a quick pint, and still be back in time to say "No luv, it's not working, must be a dodgy de-polar-rotational-watchamacallit, you might as well get down off the roof".

LOL, I'm learning thanks to experts like you & Rolfw. I've decided to go for a 2 LNB system Astra 1 & Hotbird, I'm now just eyeing up which receivers etc. to go for and where to buy them from.

Sounds like a wise plan. You'll cover a truckload of channels that way for min. cost.

BTW, I think rolfw's forgotten more about satellite stuff than I'll ever learn...;)

I'm still researching the best receiver to buy at the moment (and saving up to buy one as well)
My preference at the moment would be for one that has a built in multi cam, I'm now researching the subject of keys etc.
