I have a non Sky+ box and have been thinking of upgrading to Sky+ now when it is becoming free.

My question: Do I need to call sky and give them my new serial number of the new Sky+ box or will the Sky+ function be available without calling Sky? I'm not subscribing to any movies or other premium channels. When I initially got my subscription the card was matched with my receiver, if that makes any difference to the answer of my question...

Cheers

I'm guessing you'll have to phone them up and say you've got a new sky card as it'll need pairing to the new box.

Thinking of doing the same tbh.

I have just done this and yes you have to call sky to get the card matched to the box, only takes a few minutes to do it and as long as you don't have any premium channels you can move the card from box to box.

dont for get if you are updateing to sky + you have to change your lnb to a multi feed one as sky plus needs two runs of satellite coax from dish to receiver one for each tuner
if you get your box from sky they shood supply you with one at no extra cost

So what you're saying is that I don't need to call sky as I don't subscribe to any premium channels and just move my card to the new plus box and the plus feature will work?

Cheers

PS. The reason I don't want to call is that I hate the idea of sitting in a 3 hour queue for nothing really...

NO you still need to get the + features activated, the card is matched with the box but as long as you don't have premium channels you can move the card from box to box because it isn't locked to only work with one box.

@Cupart

the card will work in ANY box as long as you don´t want to watch premium channels (movies, sports etc.), in that case card has to be paired to a certain box

also pairing a card to a Sky+ box and converting your account to a Sky+ will enable the recording functions on the box, otherwise it will behave as a standard box even with unpaired card

hope this clarifies things
