ANYONE OVERSEAS SUBSCRIBING TO SKY ITALIA. SINCE SUBSCRIBING TO SKY UK WILL BE USELESS, WAS THINKING ABOUT GETTING SKY ITALIA. I think a 2.40 meter dish will do the job since ssky italia is on hotbird. all feedback is appreciated. anyone knows of any legitamte sellers. thanks all

Be careful with that dish size. I have information that even in Cyprus huge dishes are needed for Sky Italia. For permanent reception of all frequencies, especially for the Hotbird 4 Superbeam 5m are in use in Pafos on the west coast. The signal starts to fall in western Greece. The consequeces are that in Athens 2 3m solid dishes, one of them a Channel Master, last summer failed in receiving some of the weaker frequencies.

I would recommend to wait until Hotbird 7A and Hotbird 8 will be up next year and probably all Superbeam frequencies will change to them which will carry only Widebeams and thus be quite easily to receive. Since nobody knows if they will do this, time will show..

what do you need for sky u.k. to get astra 2d is 3m enough as well? or 2.4m? many in cyprus say 2.4m solid dish works ok but they have a pace2600 receiver (more sensitive than panasonics).

@solly: Thanks a lot for the footprint. :)

May i ask from where you 've got it since it didn't find anything on Eutelsat satellite fleet section.

@powel000: HB 7A is supposed to be launched next January. Have a look here: http://www.lyngsat.com/launches/ku.html
Sooner or later Sky Italia will move. I hope that we won't have to wait up to HB9 for the hardest HB4 transponders to leave...

I see.

These are the footprints i like :)
Not like the SES's ones, where for many years we've been told that they cover whole Europe. In some way they do but what monster dishes does one need...
A lot of time ago i learned in geography that Europe starts in Iceland-Acores-Canaries and ends at the line Ural-Cyprus

I am also very curious what will happen to HB1. Either it will be left on 13E for backup if something happens or maybe it will be moved to another Eutelsat position or be sold to another satcom organization like HB5 aka Arabsat 2D.

Let's hope that the launch will be successfull :)

My guess is Hottie 1 will be sent to 48E to replace 2F2 which is just about on its last legs, and running horribly inclined at almost 5 degrees.

Hm could be, another russian hot position would be possible: 36E-40E-48E-53E-60E-80E-90E
Of course most probable for feeds.

hope they make the switch sooner to the new hotbird. I wanna subscribe to SKy Italia and get it over with, I am sick of the Sky 2d transponders, as someone mentioned in the forum, they are moving E4 to 2d.

Dont hold your breath. Hotbird 7A primary mission is to replace Hotbird 1. The secondary mission is to provide backup capacity for Hotbird 2-4. Sky Italia isnt going anywhere in the near future my friend.

@solly:
Do you know anybody that gets all frequencies of Sky Italia all the time with 3m in Izmir or is it just a guess of yours ?

By the way: The old Türksat 1C is a little weak in central Greece, a 90cm is not sufficient for everything. People tell me that about 1.20m are needed to get everything all the time. Do you get everything in Izmir with a 60cm ? And when is Eurasiasat 2 (Türksat 2:cool: supposed to start ?

For all that are interested on new detailed footprints of the new Hotbird 7A+8, here they are: http://www.eutelsat.com/satellites/pdf/Handbooks/handbook_hotb.pdf (2.8M:cool:
See the pages 31-33

Thank you Eutelsat - NO MORE SUPERBEAMS !!!! YESSSS :)

Well Eutelsat shows that they are interested in covering whole Europe and the Middle East on 13E. The time for HB4 will also come sooner or later. I am aware that 5W, 33E, 36E W4 and in some way also the Ka-Band of HB6 are Superbeams that don't reach whole Europe but at least the most popular position 13E in Ku-Band will be easier to get. I am sure that this will rise the subscription numbers of TPS and Sky Italia since piracy won't last forever.
The big question will be - and this is probably what you mean Analoguesat - what will happen with HB 1-4 ?

HB1 is getting towards the end of its life, and will almost certainly be slotted somewhere else once Hottie 7 is operational. My guess is 48E to replace the almost derelict 2F bird there.

Hotties 2 3 & 4 have a few years life left in them yet, and will probably stay at 13E for the time being.

All this is educated guesswork, but if anyone knows anything definite - post away.
