they have just given me a skyitaly box with card how can i get incontact with a skycentre in italy to get it started from malta since by calling skyitaly number starting with 199 ... ... is not available from malta

You could ring 0039 199 100 400 thats the SKY client service no.
also they are on the web,www.skytv.it.
Its best to remember, that you should not tell them that you are in Malta.
also you should have everything set up,Dish ect before you ask them to
switch you on.
Is it a NDS or SECA box?with the NDS cards it seems that if the card is matched to the box,it initialises the card itself.

Did the box and card work in Italy,before you got it in malta?
if so you should leave the box switched on with the card inserted overnight.
Also you can try to boot the box with the card in,and do a forced software download
witch should activate the card.
