I am going to purchase a Sky+ box From Argos for use in Spain. Do you know the brand they sell and what is the best box for fringe areas.

Thanks

See this link.

By the way. Someone is selling pre-upgraded SKY+'s (bigger hard drives) on the web. I'll try to find the link for you.....

Please can people using SKY+ boxes in fringe reception areas post details of their success. I am particularly interested to know which of the various boxes available work best on the fringe.

Thanks.

Sky+ V2 Pace is better than a Pace 2200 on the same dish.
Works grand here in Switzerland - 90% quality and strength hanging off a 1m Gilbertini with Invacom quad.....

And if you can upgrade a PC drive, you can do Sky+ yourself and save ££££
I'm happily running 120Gb permanently 50% full.

I'm using a Pace V2 Sky + box in Benitachell (about 80Km north of Alicante) with an Invacom 0,3Db quad LNB on a 2,4m dish. Everything is as expected - I lose the 2D horizontally polarised transponders in the evening; this is a "feature" of the area. All other channels (including 2D vertically polarised transponders) are 24 hours per day. Performance is identical to my Pace 2600. All Sky + features working perfectly. I bought the box on Ebay and a card from a local specialist.

Sky are running a promotion just now with Sky+ for £99 - a lot of people will take up this offer.

It may be the time to contact your relatives in the UK...

With so many people applying you may have a better chance of getting away with the no phone line reply.

Can't remember the closing date but it's early December.

Dear Gameboy,

if you take a SKY subsidised box out of the UK - one that has been bought for £99 and installed by SKY - it will get the card turned off after three warning letters stating it is not plugged in..These subsidised boxes *must* have the phone line plugged in...

Better to wait 'til the box is a year old !!

I have a sky plus box version 1 down here in South Tenerife. We dont have it plugged into the phone line as we have had it for nearly 2 years - over a year in the UK. It's connected to a 90 CM offset with a dual LNB (which we had changed to a stronger one).

Because of the dish size we cant get Astra D or some of the north footprint channels, but the Sky + functions all work. We can record two progs at a time and rewind/pause etc. Some of the interactive stuff like the 8 screen footy doesnt work either, but sky news interactive does.

My worry is what happens when I need to replace my box. Can I just buy another and find my card will work in it or do i need to adjust something ?

when you replace the box, you pair the card to the new box. should be a doddle, if you can suppress your caller ID ;)
