Hi. Just wondered if anyone has used www.skyplus upgrade.com. They are selling 120 gb replacement drives for the standard 40gb. They claim to have great success with their kit for around £80. I have e-mailed them and asked what make they are. But they have not replied to me. I just thought someone on here may know anything about them or even give me pointers to other reputable firms.

Thanks.
Mark.

Maxtor, Samsung, Hitatchi all provide Sky+ upgrades up to 120Gb.
Do you know about the 17 minute bug with larger drives?
http://www.hummer.co.uk/sky.htm tells you how to DIY the upgrade. For the cost of a hard disk and a torx screwdriver you can do it all yourself and save about £25 quid :)

I looked at www.dabs.com and found a sample 120Gb drive for £55. Maplin will have Torx screwdrivers for probably a fiver.

You'd want to research the 17 minute bug, I assure you ;)

Google is your friend

Not trying to raise anyone hopes here :) But the infamous 17 min bug may have been fixed in a recent update 131A8

All tests appear to be posative so far, but time will tell.

I never swapped my 120gb out, and lived with the problem.

Since the upgrade the box has been booted 4 times and I am at around 50% without a hitch, fingers crossed and double crossed ;)

I did mine last night, 120Gb Samsung SP1203N disk is now in. Almost silent, works (bar the 10 minute wait for signal @2 to come up) and I'll reuse the 40Gb disk in a PC next month :)

gooner - have you sourced a 120Gb disk yet? You only need that, the screwdriver and you're off. The instructions help from hummer.co.uk if you need them....

I'm in Switzerland so I might get different models to you. I'd say most 120Gb disks function correctly.....I believe that the Samsung models are pre-set to use a quiet mode whereas Maxtor drives need setting up with Maxblast to run in this manner (but I might be talking out of my botty, of course ;))

Hi

I have sky plus upgrade kits here which contains a 250gb HD to replace your existing smaller one (no matter what size sky only do upto 180G:cool: each additional 40gb you get gives you an extra 20 hours recording time.

These kits come with easy to follow instructions that any body can do with ease ( my wife has done a upgrade just to prove it to my self and she has no IT experience at all.) the instructions are so easy to follow believe me!

On average it takes about half an hour to complete the upgrade and will be the best money you have ever spent!.

Price is £110 including Vat and special delivery to your door the day after payment.
