Any thoughts on how many of Sky's 11.9M subscribers (UK / Ireland) are living in continental Europe?
(note the 11.9M includes Now TV)

Has this number been affected much by the new generation of satellites?

thanks

Well, there's all the Sky UK Management, of course: Got to keep up to date whilst at their second homes in Marbella.

No as they use these footprints for UK & European subscribers:-

That's true enough - if you discount the PSB stuff chiefly on the Narrow Beams as not being Sky Channels: I do, of course, but many don't.

And it's also likely that those who consider the BBC (for example) to be a Sky Channel will also be unaware they are actually FTA, in the main!

You can get an idea of expat population from this Wikipedia article :

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_diaspora

However, those figures (which I think are a bit optimistic) are for population not households, which more accurately affects the potential subscriber numbers. Factor in how many don't have UK tv and then if they do they only view Freesat or FTA channels and I suspect the number will be substantially less than 1% of their total subscribers. I'm certain the amount of subscriptions lapsing because of the tighter footprints will number quite a few but overall it may not be significant to Sky...

Yes, quite a funny paradox that many will cancel Sky because of loss of PSBs (theoretically should be opposite)

Average UK household size is 2.3, but many ex-pats retired so prob closer to 2.

There must be quite a few ex-pats in Cyprus that have given up on Sky. We very rarely seem to hear from Cyprus residents any more on here.

Cyprus is pretty much out of the footprint of 2E and F totally, wonder if 2G will make it there? I'm guessing most of those in Cyprus will probably have cancelled their subs since the last 2A TP's were migrated over.

I suppose a lot also left when 1N came online a few years ago and they lost BBC, etc. When 2A left it must have caused another wave of cancellations to Sky and the last few will cancel when Eutelsat 28A switches off as I don't think 2G will provide much signal or much of interest on the Europe beam.

I'm still holding on to see what this summer brings in the way of Sky in Finland once 28A is gone, but it's looking more and more like I should cancel because I don't have space for a large dish and it's getting harder and harder to justify the Sky price rises as the channels keep dropping off.

I don't believe that in Cyprus ( as I read in greek forums about reception of 28.2) would be someone with sky subscription.
