Would be better if they offered it for free for non-subscribers. The prices are extortionate.

I remember when it only cost £3 to add two Sky Sports channels back in the good old days.

@Analoguesat

Thanks for the tip-off as I had not seen it elsewhere, and started trying nearly an hour ago - took about 15 mins before I could log into Sky, and ever since then I've been watching that circulating icon going hypnotically round, and round, and round, and........ .........................................:rolleyes:

@jeallen01

DS forum subscribers are reporting success by opening a new private / secret / incognito browser session.

Lets be honest Sky should be doing this automatically for ALL sports subscribers.

Thanks, had a look at the DS thread in question and will try that later on today.

Didn't yet get to try that - but the latest post on that thread (around 19.11 today) appears to indicate that (maybe?) that, even if the "claiming" process doesn't work then Sky will apply a pause to the Sky Sport subscription - maybe they are doing that to anyone who has a subscription even if you don't try to "claim", but I actually have no idea?

Phoned up yesterday. Total time on phone was two hours spread over two calls.

Best I could get was to reduce to a basic subscription of £22 per month. I said I would cancel, they then have to transfer you to another section. Then waited for 30 minutes and gave up.

That surely means you're still on the full, unreduced subscription though?

Another attempt, this time on the phone for an hour, mostly waiting for someone to answer the line. Went through only two people this time.

Spent a long time with the second person. He would not budge, would not offer any deal below the £22 per month to be paid with the suspend sports option. The £22 per month gives you the basic entertainment channels only - no premium channels - and they won't offer any deal below that.

In my case my contract has a few months to go and they will not cancel. They say I have to pay the £22 month until the end of the contract - there is no other option. If sports come back before the end of my contract, sports will automatically be turned on and I will go back to the previous monthly charge. Cancelling the DD yourself is not a good idea (bad credit rating, etc, etc).

Some people will be out of their contracted period. In theory they should be able to cancel their subscription completely (although only by going through the hour plus phone call). But I can't confirm that as it does not apply to me.

Latest. When I finished the long phone call mentioned above I asked for someone more senior to call me. I was not hopeful.

But I was called yesterday. Very calm guy from the UK call centre, he went through all the options described in the call earlier in the week - saying that what was offered to me was the best they could do. He clarified the "best" offer - it turned out that the previous advice that it was £22/month was in fact £24/month - because the price goes up by £2/month from 1 April 2020.

However, because I had raised a particular concern he could offer me two possible discounts. I could take a one month subscription holiday - worth £24, or I could have a £6 discount for the next 18 months. 18 x £6 = £108 so that was the best option for me. The offer of £6 month discount would NOT extend my current contract, so, as there was no downside, I accepted that.

I suppose I could have pushed harder, but did not try.

To repeat what I've said before. As soon as sports return (I guess that could be any sport?), the monthly charge goes back up. Anyone who is out of contract can cancel completely - my situation is only relevant if you are within your contract period.

Important: I should have added my thanks to the original poster who mentioned that Sky were offering the pause sport subscription.

I would guess that if you argued hard enough, you could force them to suspend the whole subscription until sports returned. You could use the argument that you only subscribed to sky for the sport content and had the other watched channels available on Freeview, would love to see a lawyer get hold of this.

Apparently you can also pause BT sports via the website if your sub is via sky, and not direct from bt
