You sell someone a Sky Digibox, a dish and a subscription. After 12 months you then ring them up and offer them a warranty. That warranty costs £60 for 12 months and covers the installation of a new Digibox and the call out of an engineer if your dish moves or you have problems with the cabling. The lovely bit is all you have to say is yes and Sky will add the £60 charge to your subscription as they already have your Direct Debit instructions. Now if they can persuade all 5 million dish users to sign up that is 5,000,000 x £60 = £300 million a year. No wonder they are ringing subscribers to offer the “service”. Nice business if you can get it.
And one particular company seems to have grasped the size of the business Satellite Direct UK are mailing Sky subscribers and putting inserts into local papers offering a free bottle of wine to any Sky subscriber who sends in their name and address and date of the end of their Sky warranty. Clever
