Hi Turok,

I have both the new D 9835 and old D 9234 type decoders. I found that the old remote does is not totally compatible with the new D 9835. Some of the functions work such as Power and Channel button, but the menu and other buttons don't work. I also found that you can simply use a universal remote for turning on the decoder and simply use the menu button to set up the settings. The authorization (at least for AFN) you need to be an ID card holder (Military or Civilian) for the U.S. Military. There is a website at _https://pvconnect.net/unreg/auth1.php you can use to register the decoder, but like I said you may have problems registering since it will ask for an Army Post Office (APO) address. BTW, can you help me out with the Power Supply problem (clicking noise)? Joe

Forgot to answer the last part of your question. Yes, the NATO Base is still here. Probably will remain, but the U.S. Army may be leaving in a couple of years. Still up in the air. Joe

Hmm, looks like my first post did not work concerning the remotes. The remotes to the old type D 9234 and the new type decoder D 9835 are not totally compatiable. good idea,withe the universal remote,so i have to setup the decoder first,without remote,is a little bit difficult

with a universal remote,in the learning mode,it should be also posible,to copy,all the function into it,when some have the orginal one,we can clone the remote

what is the diffrence, of old and newer afn decoder?

can you confirm,that the reactivation,now must happen every 2 year online,instead of 5 years before?

Hi Turok,

I can't really see a difference between the old and the new when it comes to functions, but the price is a big difference. The old decoder use to cost over $500.00 and the new one is only $279.00. Can't confirmed the registration period, but 2 yrs seems to be right, since I could only register my decoder for two years. This however, only applies to the military AFN decoder don't know about the normal registration. On the remote, once you have the decoder setup, you really only need the channel changer, volume control and the on and off buttons. O.k. now what about my question on the clicking sound from the power supply..any ideas? ciao Joe

you find in this post,a shemtic of the power supply,how it looks it always the same part that its gone!
when you have connected,a afn decoder one time,then best you never replug the power,often in happen,that it gone,when you plug the power in..!

do you have a remote controll,for me to sale when you have currencly 10 afn decoders that are not working?

There is one availabel for $9.00. However, it may go fast!! Keep checking the website if it is already sold.

Concerning the power supply problem. Yes, I have already checked all the threads concerning the diagrams and the C9 Cap. Replacing the C9 cap does not work when the power supply has a clicking sound, it only works with the high pitch sound. In fact, I have already fixed three in the last two days. ;-) Joe

can you confirm,that the older modell that i have 9234,is only sutable,for cband reception on 1 west?
someone told me this,but i cannot verify the source is it true or not?
he told in this modell it is not posible to swtich to kuband singals!

in cband on west,there is also one hd channels,in the package?
does it only work on the newer decoder?

Afn Sports sending there in cband in mpeg 4 HD,so i wondering,how the old receiver can receive this signal,maybe it only works on the newer modell!?

i have a question i have a power light on and a signal light on to but cannot see the menu when i hit the menu button on the afn decoder do anybody know the problem but when i hook a different receiver up it works.

Is there a shematic for the D9834 somewhere?
I've got a D9835, which is the almost the same as the D9834, but without RS232 and LAN.
Since it's the same pcb, it would be 'just' some missing parts. But what are they?

Or can someone please take a photo of that part of the pcb in the D9834?

the problem,what the afn decoder have is,after long analysis that the tuner is not very sensitive,and the voltage swiching,take to much power from the power supply!
i find out,that you can extend,the life time of the power supply ,when you use external voltage switching over another stb,to relieve the power supply itself!
the reason,that most nato base in war region have large sat dishes would be also the reason,why all technical components,of this receiver have very low quality ,this save alot of coasts in mass production!
i got now my remote controll with the type rm9234
this should be the right modell !

hello to all,
i wanted to make a new post but didn't know how to do so.
afn decoders hd.
they finaly arived at the exchange and they cost $370. but afn will not transmit in hd until 2012 or later.
afn kicked off 13 degree hot bird??
yes mediset italia is tring to get afn's 2 transponder and the satellite providers will not renew afn's contract
more money.
afn is also transmitting on 9 east on 11.766 vert. and more than likely will move there with another frequency and hd service.
afn will have to swap all the afn boxes out in the fiels as well.
there is no date its a mess for sure.
british forces service is moving as well.
they are moving from 7 east but there is no word to were they are moving.
well thats all the news i have for now

BFBS tested for a coupele of weeks on 10E last year so maybe thats a possibility

there are many new modells out after ciso bought sintific atlanta,but only one is the right for afn!
