software upgrade for Nokia 9600S

Hi,
I have just been given one of these receivers, having been using a Sky
digibox to try some limited FTA. The Software version C12.6 is shown at switch on. Can I upgrade and what is the best for a relative novice. I'm
receiving 400 channels via hotbird with no CAM.

Well, I have just upgraded to C.I. 3.1, the latest official upgrade form Nokia: http://www.nokia.com/nokia/0,8764,1863,00.html
then I bought a Matrix Revolution CAM and it works fine. You eill need a serial null-modem cable that you can get from any good electronics store. There is also an unofficial upgrade called DVB2000 but I am not sure what it would do to your receiver, I have seen some reports of firmware erase on the Web, so I wouldn't reccommend you try it unless you are willing to risk!
