Sony VTXS750U

Can anyone help please. I have recently bought a Sony VTXS750U decoder. It has a digital optical output, however when I connect a fibre optic lead from this to my cinema amp, I cannot receive digital sound. Any ideas?

Murdoch had only allowed the thing to come to market at all on the condition that the digital output was disabled in the software (giving the customer choices would set a dangerous precedent apparently).
Has that policy been revised at all? If so you probably only need to do a forced software download (but I'm guessing).
