You may find that you're trying to jam an AGP 2.0 or higher spec card into and AGP 1.0 spec AGP port that simply won't support it. All AGP ports are not the same. The cards also run at different voltages.

Probably not. I've done it before by mistake. Many cards will run all of the various voltages employed across the revised AGP specs (0.8V 1.5V and 3.3V) and you'd be unlucky to damage your motherboard either.

Check the AGP specs of your components carefully.

Yes, unfortunately to upgrade your AGP card, you may need to upgrade the motherboard which of course also means a new CPU/fan and memory too.

Your best bet might be to get a 64mb PCI graphics card. That will give your system a huge graphics boost and should be compatible. Some older systems don't like to run without something in the original AGP slot though.

Well they do say that you shouldn't upgrade unless you can double the speed of your processor, not difficult with a PIII 350Mhz, you could probably improve if 5 fold with a new mother board and processor for a very small amount of money.

I found the fastest I could improve a PIII was to 500MHz.

I am surprised an ATI card would actually physically fit in the motherboard slot of a PIII anyway, the distance to the rear panel stops me fitting the Radeon 9600 Pro Ive had for yonks.
