When in Holland over Christmas i bought 2 new receivers,a Sab Explorer ci
and a Visonnet fta.
When i came back to Italy,i plugged them onto my PF dish which is working perfectly on the BBC and ITV channels with a SAB710 receiver.
When i attach both of the new sets to the PF dish,no signal at all, although
1 set picked up some signals on Astra 3?
I used the programmed factory settings for Astra 2a/b/d ect.
anybody any ideas?for instance is it necessary to adjust the LNB skew when hooking up a new box.
The dish has not moved. Could it be the tuners in these new receivers are poor?

Presumably, you're using loopthrough, so only 1 receiver at any time is "working" the lnb?

Use signal strength/quality display to see what's happening on particular channels!

I have hooked them up both ways,Loop through, and directly connected,
the strength/quality displays do not show anything.

Well, it seems the dish/lnb must be working, to get BBC etc.

The stored channels lists could be wrong, so I'd check some transponder details on already working channels, then enter these into the new receivers.

It wouldn't be something like diseqc settings, lnb local oscillator frequencies, etc?

Polarisiation should still be ok, unless you've got continuously adjustable!

Can you not try them out on another dish, with a stronger input to check the boxes actually function OK? A temporary lash-up would do...

My first thought would be tuner sensitivity though if it's both boxes? :(

I have checked them out on my other dishes, both work fine on 19e Astra /Hotbird.
Looks like its down to the tuner sensitivity, maybe it would be a good idea to do a survey on Receiver tuner sensitivity, some people may be buying big dishes when they are not the problem.
I do find it strange that both have poor tuners.

Yes it's a bit odd, but seemingly the only answer.

It's a shame the tuner stage isn't 'plug and play' and interchangeable in more boxes, or indeed in a separate box altogether...

Have you done what spiney suggested in message 4?

Yes i have checked everything, funny thing is they pick up Astra 3 and Eurobird, but no Astra 2A/B/D ect.
When changed to another dish for Astra 1 and Hotbird they show signal and
quality at 90/80 on Hotbird, but no signal on Astra 1.
The dish has 2 LNB,s with a DiSqu switch,which worked ok,with a Samsung on
Dutch tv and an Italian Sky Box on Hotbird, with a loop through for ART.
It seems i am doing something wrong with the settings.
The Idea of installing this box was to use both cams in 1 set, when i scan the
signal for ART does not appear on Hotbird, and there is no signal for Astra 1/dutch tv.

Well, it seems strange that Dave Branson can't get anything at all from particular satellites on a known working dish/lnb. Even with a worse tuner, you should still get some stronger transponders.

Yes, receiver senseitivities vary, but this is small, by far the most important thing is SNR of received signal, as determined by dish size/ lnb noise figure.

Does nothing at all show on "signal strength" for known working channels? If so, that's a bit odd .....
