The reason you are getting nothing is that its not picking up any signal. The TM 1500 does that often on a Freq where there is no signal and it shows a high signal strenght but it probably is staying red on screen and also giving 19% quality in red also. Theres actually no signal but the TM shows it that way. On the other 4w you also say some slight breakup at 64%. The TM seems to have a threshold of pic/no pic in the low to mid 60's

Is it necessary to know the strongest transpoder for every orbital position?

Every orbital position may have several beams. It is there any great difference between the strongest and the weakest transpoder? I don't think that there is any significant difference.

Furthermore, if the transpoder is out of order at the installation time? Imagine that there is a heavy rain (or a thick cloud) over the uplink station of the strongest transpoder. How can anyone manage to find the satellite?

The thread is designed for those who may not be aware which transponders to set on their receiver when aligning their dish, we have had hundreds of posts from members experienceing problems with finding a satellite and very often it is because their receiver has defaulted to an inactive or out of footprint transponder. In an ideal world we would have a list for each of the different areas, as what you can definitely see in Greece, may not be seen from the UK with similar dish size.

We have also endeavoured to find transponders which have FTA offerings where possible and higher symbol rates for more robust reception.

STRONGEST TP/ Channels (MID UK 75e-74w KU Band) LIST UPDATE 06/06/08

These are the strongest Channel/ transponder lists per satellite 75e-74w from the centre of the UK as recorded on one average sample system in mid UK 1.1m Triax/ TMS1000/ Sharp .3 lnbf. 30m cable. Busy in line of sight horizon to horizon limited at 45e 45w plus estimated with a small dish from a vanatage point beyond 45e/w- extreme east estinmated only! Some channels blank but still give signal.

No but I may include meter readings in the next update in April 2009 after these satellites are fully in service:-
Astra 1M for 19.2 east,14 transponders working currently,
Hotbird 9 & 10 for 13 east,
Eutelsat W2A for 10 east,
Express AM44 for 11 west,
Telstar 11N for 37.5 west,

I can get quite a few horizontals on 7W up to 48Q but after 10pm. Still watchable though and most verticals during the day unless it rains!! Hope this is useful, though please remember that I'm a bit further south than the UK in relation to certain footprints.

I haven't posted anything on this thread since I changed my dish to a Gibertini 1M and receiver to a Vantage. Also, I've been re aligning and trying to get everything as spot on as I can. The Vantage usually locks a signal at around 70Q reading.

I can't get further than 22°W because of tree growth. There may be slightly more performance to be had with extra fine tuning, but the elevation adjustment on the Gibi isn't engineered for small increments. I have a mod in mind for that though......

Obviously these are very strong transponders, I haven't as yet managed to consistently capture any HD transmissions from 26°E or 7°W (I wish).

Though it tends to be within the eye of the beholder, for picture quality the TRT promo on Turksat is excellent.
