Sorry accidentally deleted all of your threads, rather than just the three identical ones you had posted, unfortunately this is a risk you run when you cross post, i just kept hitting the button.

But to answer your question about what you need to do to set up your 80cm dish in St Tropez.

.An 80cm should be just enough to get most of the Sky Digital channels down there.

You will need to point the dish at Astra 28.2 East, so you will need a compass for rough alignment and a portable TV, so that you can watch the signal meter on the Digibox while you are very slowly panning with the dish.

Hi
thanks for that. yes sorry about the multiple posting! So do you mean aim the dish at 28.2 East even though I am in France? Which actual direction should that be from our location do you think? We have looked at nearby dishes and they seem to be facing S-SW ish

We do have a french digital sat receiver too, so should we use that or the actual sky digibox? this is all rather confusing!

Most of the French dishes will be pointing at either 19.2 East or 5W.

You can find out your exact coordinates at www.heavens-above.com

Saint-Tropez, 43.2670N, 6.6330E

You can then download the Swedish Microwave calculator from www.smw.se and it will tell you the direction and elevation you should be aiming for.

Elevation 36 degrees
Azimuth (compass bearing) 150 Degrees.

These are the settings for Sky Digital, if you want the French TV as well, you will need a separate dish, or a second LNB, but it depends which package you are wanting.

thanks again for your help.....so do you think we could use our 80cm sat dish with a sky digibox, and aim for the 150 degree bearing you mentioned at 38 elevation...
we do have this Thallis decoder which came with the dish as well..but cannot seem to get more than 70% signal

The signal level is not too important, quality is the critical issue.

If you are getting channels, then you are succeeding.
