What is the difference between a satellite receiver and a Sky digibox? When would you want one rather than the other. Please excuse my lack of knowledge.

Hi Seamus

There's no such thing as a stupid question on this forum - we all learn something every day.

Both are satelliite receivers, Sky boxes are normally only used to receive Sky channels, although other transponders can be received.

STB's other than 'digiboxes' are more versatile, enabling transponders from other satellites to be picked up, increasing greatly the number of channels you can watch, especially if you have a motorised dish to point at the different satellites.

A little less analogue, and a lot more crap.

No, well at least not yet.

The card that is required for ITV is still only functional in a Sky box, the nearest chance of getting ITV is if they choose to remove the encryption like the BBC did two years ago.
