Hi marco 26,
welcpme to the forum.
Nothing wrong with the dish, or motor, providing it still works, you might want to upgrade the LNB, for better performance, and check the cable, and connections, but apart from that just get a digital receiver and you can start viewing again.
What make/model motor do you have? If it's a 36v, you might also want to consider a V-Box II.

If you can, post up the images of the dish and motor. Should be able to tell from there.

I will see if i can do that, major problem for me is that the dish is on the rooftop of the house.

A little less analogue, and a lot more crap.

The problem then will be the cost of the installer's time in assessing what needs upgrading to get you a functioning system. By the time they have the ladder(s) out you will already have an hours labour.

Roughly what year was the system installed ? A better clue may be the type of receiver that was originally installed downstairs.
In most instances of upgrading a dish, the cost of dismantling and removing/replacing corroded parts takes just as long as fitting a new dish to an existing mounting point.

Could a new dish be installed elsewhere to avoid the hassle of climbing up to roof level ?

This install should have 20 years old.
I already have another satellite dish from a paid tv service elsewhere in the House, so i would like to keep this in the same spot.

I guess i will have to call someone to dismantle the install and then see if anything can be reused.

You maybe able to take a picture from the ground. Should be easily identified.
