What is the blind scan like? How fast to scan a whole satellite? and how much does it miss? Also can you control the scanned symbol rates?

Thanks Starman, I've certainly not had any complaints about the card and as you say the blind scan app is excellent. I've not really looked to see how many 16&32APSK signals are about in Europe but it does seem to be the only thing I miss out on. I do have one issue with mine, changing channel within DVB Dream doesn't always work first time if the new channel is empty or very weak, not sure if this is a driver or app issue but it's hardly a show stopper.

Well it depends, the TBS blind scan tool is not very fast however it is thorough. I have seen it take an hour to scan both vertical and horizontal polarities on a satellite. Also, there is no realtime feedback as the scan is taking place, you can't actually see what freq it is scanning at the moment. Scanned in frequencies are added to a list and shown on the screen as they are logged. I've scanned some satellites in as little as 20 minutes with the TBS tool but that is still a long time..
On the other hand, the 6925 is much quicker with BLScan (and now the new GUI version Easy BlindScan) Depending on the satellite, I would guess scans take between 5 and 15 minutes with the average around 8-10 minutes. Accuracy is very good, depending on dish aiming, lnb quality, etc.

Also can you control the scanned symbol rates?
No in the TBS blind scan tool, yes in BLScan, most settings are configurable in BLScan, including step rate, freq range, ini output format, min/max SR, and a host of other settings.

Received the TBS 6925 today, just installed it to have a play.

So far, just checked the Italian ACM mux on AB1. Scanning it gives me six channels in the clear (nothing else on the TP at present, possibly different channels appear at different times).

Canal One
Mediaset Extra
HSE 24
Real Time
QVC
LA5

TBS Recorder looks interesting, gives plenty of channel statistics.

Yet to try blind scanning, SR limits etc.

Have you had a chance to try the card with CrazyScan? It works very well with it, motor control, DiSEqC1.2, and 22khz control

Will try it soon starman. 10E is good for feeds. Just need to read the info files in the BS folder to aquaint myself with Crazyscan.

I don't need DiSEqC motor control, I use a separate positioner (Echostar AD3000).

Just did a comparison scan on Anik F3 @118.8W with the TBS BS tool v3.0.0.5 and BLScan
TBS tool found 15 transponders in 35:30 minutes, BLScan found 15 transponders in 6:47 minutes. This was the C Band side of AnikF3 that was scanned. I should also mention the TBS 6925 scanned in two transponders with an SR of 923 on this satellite, both scanned successfully with TBS tool and BLScan.

Here's a blind scan I did on Eutelsat W2A 10E using BLScan with the TBS 6925.

Time taken as shown in the Report file was ~642s, a little over 10 minutes. TP's checked were without the 9E frequencies to clutter up the results. I have no other hardware blind scan capabilities, so I don't have any means to check whether the time taken was good or otherwise.

It found a 16APSK feed, also an NBC_QPSK channel, not sure what flavour that is?

I'm using a WIN7 x64 OS.

I wondered this too when I started using BLScan and this is the answer I got back from Crazycat.

Crazycat said:
NBC_QPSK is DVB-S2/QPSK in DVBDream transponder ini subformat.
QPSK modulation with LDPC/BCH FEC.

A mistake in the Setup txt file - the search interval 1 lines for min and max vert sweep was the same as for the hor (search interval 0).

I forgot to edit it before posting after using that setup for another satellite.

So 10 minutes in 4MHz steps but you are only scanning verticals?

I couldn't tell from that config file. 10 minutes to scan a whole satellite in 4MHz steps is pretty respectable for any blind search receiver. Go much faster than that and they'll start missing stuff. 4MHz is OK 99% of the time but will miss things when you have ultra low symbol rate feeds right next to one another.

Polarity is defined by 0=H, 1=V

; Search interval 0 definition
; Polarisation - 0;H;Horizontal, 1;V;Vertical, 2;L;Left, 3;R;Right
[Scan0]
Pol=H

; Search interval 1 definition
[Scan1]
Pol=V

Yes, I'll try a step of 2MHz next time and compare results.

Watching MPEG4 4:2:2 feeds will depend on the codecs you have with your chosen DVB viewing application.

I haven't as yet tried to find any using the 6925 card, but I had no problem with my Hauppauge WINTV HD card and DVBViewer Pro. Can't remember which codec I was using at the time. No doubt the 6925 will have no problem with those feeds.

As for the 6925's LNB short circuit protection, I would be surprised if that wasn't a feature. The only pci card I had that didn't have protection was a certain version of a Skystar 2 card - as I found out one day.

Looks like the thread already exists regarding the TBS 6925 ...
Having just heard about it for the first time on aceb Cband setup thread ..

Can anyone tell me where this card can be obtained and at what sort of monies ?

Just searched on ebay ..but came back with nothing ..
The only thing I found was this list of features posted on another forum ..

so far that is ..

I'll definately read the whole thread ..and do a bit of digging for my own benefit.

1 quick question though ..
Is it only used with its own proprietory software ..or is it supported by DVBviewer ?
I have a genuine paid for version of this software ..

Feature 10 . in the list suggests it is ..but would appreciate some feedback from users..
