Managed to grab this, it’s sold from technics with a 12 month warranty.

It’s an ex demo unit, as technics are stopping production of all home stereo equipment, so are clearing the warehouses of old stock.

In my opinion they changed me enough, I only hope it lives up to the reputation, and I get to play my old tapes.

I should have it on Thursday.

Oh that's nice! I did like proper tape decks... shame I don't really have any tapes of interest to play. Not really anyway.

How much was it and are there any more similar units?

The unit has arrived  on the back there’s a Panasonic security tag and id number.

Just plugged it together, got to pop out to pick something up.

I will give it a good try later on.

Nice score Chris!

Still kicking myself for giving one of these away, apparently a Tandberg inside.
It would do near CD Quality recordings with a decent tape :(

Tandberg are supposed to be really good units.

From what I have read the nakamichi dragon or tandberg units are supposed to be in the same league. (Professional)

That Technics is a superb unit!
I fancy getting a reel to reel one day.

I never owned a reel-to-reel unit - went straight from vinyl to cassette tape. They certainly look retro and quality is supposed to be very good.

Me either, but so curious to know what high quality analogue audio sounds like.
it's a big thing at the moment, people are remastering things on to reel to reel.

Also, I want to experience Analogue HD Video, would be mindblowing to see something without MPEG Artifacts and macroblocking.

I have got a reel to reel somewhere, it’s a really old “portable” valve unit mono only.

I do keep an eye out for them on the bay.

Some artists are recording on reel to reel tape, I don’t like the artist but Linn Stanly sells them on reel tape it’s £600+ a reel  as she has to get the specially ordered/made.

I've only got one bit of vintage hifi left, I say vintage, it's a 1980s Marantz CD player with dual TDA1541 DACS, I saw it in Cash Generator and gave £15 for it, it's in storage in one of my cupboards.

Cashgenerators/Cashconverters are always worth a nose when passing at their HiFi section. Some real gems in there at times.

Wow £600, if I only had more money than sense. I know people who buy recordings because of what they sound like and how they are recorded, even if they don't like the artist!

Dumped all my audio cassettes last year when my Technics decks gradually packed up after 30+ years of use :(

Only LP's & flac files nowadays still have some CD's but no comparison to LP's :)

My Sony Reel to Reel was good for a while back in the 80's

Looks like a very nice Technics deck you have got yourself Chris :)

I can’t work that one out either, I spend my money on groups I like.

Plus I still have all my old tapes, and a load I have inherited oh and purchased more on eBay

Most of my music nowadays is via the Pi as my entire cd collection is on my media server (1400+ at last count)

I still play a few records from time to time some new pressings. Imho the new pressings doesn’t sound anything like the genuine LP from the 70/80’s.

@Chris1979 Off topic, apologies in advance. (Not worth a new thread?)
You need to try one of these, £2 coin for scale.
If you are ever in the area I'll demonstrate it, it's mind blowing!20180307_173434.jpg

There were experiments on much higher resolutions using analogue video, I wonder if any of the media still exists?
But would love to see some HDMAC!
