Hi all

Im a complete novice to all this receiver Tech and this is my first ever thread on this forum I would like some advice on the following:

I am planning on buying a receiver for Hotbird 13E and found a TM 5600 for sale on ebay with 5 built in CAM's and patched. Have absolute no clue what that means but seller says it will unlock channels. I then found the TM 6900HD which is not patched.

I have an HD TV and would like to keep it on an HD diet when possible. The question is:

Should I get the TM 6900 for the HD quality, is it worh it?, but will not unlock channels or should I go for the TM5600 that would provide me with locked channels and by the sounds of things the whole works. It does have component output so should be better than scart.

The TM5600 is for 120 and the TM6900 is for 275.

Thanx

Welcome to the forum venom78

Well it is only my opinion but I would not be looking backwards on this matter. You already have an HD tv so why spend good money on buying something that will not give you an HD picture. According to this thread the technomate can be loaded with unofficial software using a USB stick which has to be easier than the null modem cable method which you would have to buy with the cheap option.

I must agree with Topper. If you get the TM-5300 you will kick yourself for not spending a few extra quid on the TM6900. It has the same patchability as all the other TM series of receivers but with High Def included.

I both use the TM-1500 (pre TM 5000 series) and the TM-6900 and would not want to change mainly because of excellent picture qulity from both and the patchability mentioned earlier.

I'd go for the 6900...

Let's hear how you get on...

The latest TM5x00 and TM6800/TM6900 are equally supported software wise, so you can remove that reasoning from your decision. It is just a case of- Do you want HD and want to pay the extra, YES or NO?
