hi fellas

im thinking about a new reciver, either a humax 5400 5500 crci or a 8100 or a technomate 5500 cip plus or a 5500 dapci or 5500ci super, could anyone tell which is best? after i get the receiver i will want to get a dish motor and a cam to add to the receiver, if i buy one of the above receivers do i need a sperate device to sit between the receiver and the dish motor to control and power it or will the receiver do that? and i was thinking about a dragon cam, but am open to suggestions if the dragon cams are not good, i already have a 80cm dish a universal lnb, but if anyone can think of anything else i need could you please post.
thanks in advance

Hi spilffbizzie

Condolance's on your sad loss.

I have never had any of the recivers that you mention, so am not able to give any advice on them, can tell you that every member of this and every other forum will all have there own idea has to what reciver is the best one, my advice would be to do a search and se what different members have to say about them.
Most modern recivers have built in DiSEq drives so that to go motorised all you will need is to bye a DiSEq motor and mount, Your LNB will be ok. You should be able to pick up Turksat at 42E with your 80cm but have not checked the footprint for Belfast.
As to if you require a cam again everyone has has the one they like best, I have used a Dragon with a Dynamite programmer for the past three months and never had any trouble with it, re-programed twice to get Conax back otherwise imput new keys via reciver.
If you require any other help I am sure the members will be more than happy to give same if thay can.

Hi spliffbizze
I currently have Humax 5400 Patched and have found it to have everything that I have needed for the last few years. No cams or crds needed. But with the HOT team no longer working this may be a problem. As for the tachnomate I set up a 5000 dapci for a friend at the weekend and found it to be Pi!! Poor compaired the the Humax. My choice would be the Humax but as things change I have just invested in a dreambox 7000s of which in MY opinion is the latest generation and the way foward. The drawback being computer knowledge is a must!!
Hope this helps.

hi fellas

thanks lofty hi sonic

im gonna speak to the fella in the satellite superstore, see what sorta deal i can get on all the stuff i want, i think im gonna go with technomate (cos there cheap) for now with the plan of upgrading to a dreambox in the near future, so if i can get the technomate now for a reasonable price that will do til i get a dreambox then the technomate can go to my dad, the dreambox seems to be the way to go, i mess with pc's everyday so setting 1 up would't hold any fears for me, i give you a shout when i get my receiver and stuff, probably have a million questions then lol.

speak to u both later
