Hello.

If you buy a new Technomate receiver does it have some of the satelllites and channels already programmed in,or does it come blank and you have to scan all the sats one at a time ?

Many thanks.

They normally have a database of transponders, you then scan in the required satellites.

It comes with a few satellites already programed in...... (i seem to recall about 19) with allocated channels (which you scan for in order to activate).... but these channels will be out of date by anything up to two years.... so you will receive no signal on some..... as already suggested, you can update to more recent settings from the Technosat Website via a null modem cable..... you may need a cable with 9 pins on one end and 25 pins on the other to download via a laptop.... (available from Maplin).

All other satellites are there for you to add as you go along.... its just a matter of going into the satellite menu to activate them...(this is indicated when you see a tick against the satellite in the LNB column.
It takes a bit of navigating but you soon get used to it....

If you havent updated yet, you will find you can get a whole lot more channels manualy by going through each Transponder and changing the Horizontal Verticle setting and seeing if you get a major increase in Signal/Quality strength.... then save the setting that gives you the big increase..... I doubled the number of channels on Hotbird to over 1,500 by doing this when I first had my Technomate 5500 DAPCI... (although not all were active at the time).
