Advice Needed Technomate TM-8 Octo LNB & Fitting Size?

Looking to change the standard quad lnb on a mini sky dish to the Technomate TM-8 Octo LNB which has gold f-type connectors and low noise for impressive signals apparently.

What I want to know is has anyone any experience with this brand lnb or maybe the actual one, if so what are your thoughts?

My second question is will it fit straight into the old lnb that is currently fitted. Sky mini dish is about 6yrs old so no idea what MK it may be but would like to know if I need to get some kind of universal adaptor for this Technomate lnb.

TBH, I don't see the need for a sooper-dooper (As claimed by the Manufacturer!) LNB anyway as the 28E signals should blast in where you are.

I would be inclined to swap to a standard Sky Octo LNB, any gain the TM Octo "may" have in performance over the Sky Octo will be lost in the mismatch with the dish and of course the Sky version will be cheaper and can be bought with the correct legacy adapters.

same here dont waste your money.... if you insist on the TM octo then you might aswell upgrade to something like a td64 aswell for extra weather margin

The Inverto octo can be cheaper and I would rather have it over the Technomate. But yes it is cheaper to get the sky thing as the signal is so strong an ancient 3dB max noise LNB would be fine!

Gold connectors are irrelevant nonsense.

Self-amalgamating tape on all connections is incredibly important.

Self amalgamating tape on an Octo is incredibly difficult to apply due to the space between connectors and with decent "F" connectors, not really necessary, as most LNBs now have a weather shield. All of my external use "F" connectors have "O" rings.

Yep, doing up the f connectors can be a pain with the spacing. They do a tool for this. Also use the F's with an "O" ring; Cabelcon or Triax.

Damp and water gets everywhere up here, it is much drier where you are.

I would do what I do with the quads and put the self amalgamating tape on up to the bit that screws in, then screw it into the LNB, then pass around an inch of self amalgamating tape to cover the screw bit at the top.

I have some of those f connectors with the o ring gaskets. Mine are a little loose on RG6 and the self amalgamating tape helps to stop it sliding out due to gravity. I found when I was changing an LNB last year the cable had slid down a few mm in the f connector. I should have taken a photo of it. So I put a longer bit of self amalgamating tape than usual on each cable and then put a short strip on top as described.

If I was doing it your way I would spray it with white lithium grease. But I just happen to have some cans around and I am paranoid about that damn water that gets everywhere. I always spray it on the car battery terminals around this time of year anyway.

Do you mean the tool like a screwdriver that Vision sell?

If so I have one and it is great. Highly recommended. It has a bit on the handle you can screw the f connector to and it makes it easy to push it on the cable.

I have the Triax f connectors with the O ring gasket and it is Triax cable they are not quite snug on!

Save the hassle and use some compression fit f connectors.

I believe you can buy them now where you don't need a crimp tool to fit them.

If those are the ones that you push on and they clamp automatically to the cable without the compression tool then I also have some of those.

I got them for a masthead amp but I never got round to using them.

I thought they would hold on and resist gravity (following the LNB experience) but seemed a bit bulky to fit in the case properly.

They seem very well made. Not cheap though, I refused to get more than a few!

I got them from Tradeworks. They are not the waterproof versions and I would have covered them in self-amalgamating tape.

That compression version is super.

With the LNB plastic shroud you would be very unlucky to have problems here - but it is still possible sadly.

One year there was high to gale force winds for six weeks with prolonged hours long rain and that would really test it. So I would put an inch of self amalgamting tape around the bottom just in case.

You can stop laughing, it really can be that bad!
