hi i have read through this thread and cant find proper clarification with regard to DM600 can some clarify is there an overheating problem wit the dm600 internal card reader and does it need to be modified? Also does the boxkey still have to be entered with 2.1.3?

I can confirm there's no overheating probs in my DM600 on the internal reader with the white card.
Yes the boxkey has to be used in CCcam_2.1.3
you must enter it in the following format
BOXKEY: /dev/sci0 A1 B2 C3 D4

Ok someone else has said that although it may work temporarily that the larger voltage (5v) will damage the card over time? Can anyone confirm this?

Hi lads i have set SKY UK 0963 in newcs in my DM 500 and everything work ok i test it with mbox + newcs and i getting realy good times ECMs:
[22:24:30] [NEWCAMD] Control words received successfully (127.0.0.1:20001), time (116 ms).
[22:29:12] [NEWCAMD] Control words received successfully (127.0.0.1:20001), time (131 ms).
Is that normal or could be damage card?Card is not getting hot just warm to touch. I have 100% hits in newcs.
I followed steps in this thread.

erukus, we have no way of knowing. If the card is under any excesive stress you will see the plastic start to brown on top of the actual chip. It will go quite dark in colour before it kills it. I've seen it first hand on a 093b card, it looked bad and still worked.

hakizu, those ecm response times are fine. I had 99ms in my omnikey and the card was stone cold. Now its in the smargo directly in CCcam 2.1.3 I get 0.160. Again card is stone cold.

Hi all.

You should not be too concerned about operating voltages with the sly card, if you consider the range of boxes these cards will have to interface with and the chance of Sly having to spend obscene amounts of money from card failure which could additionlly damage the actual box, then a reconsider would be in order.

A standard micro used in a smart card application would be capable of operating at a wider range of voltages than most would consider, 5V being the standard which most receivers have operated from for a considerable amount of time, dropping to 3.3V would be within the operating range of the card, this would be for speed rather than anything else.

In the forseeable future, manufacturers will change to lower operating voltage for these cards but these would be for other applications than satellite as no one could guarantee the boxes operating voltage and considering the operation of the card it is very unlikely these manufacturers would ever want that is capable of an increase speed.

I did actually try to kill a smart card several years ago when I was bored and managed to increase the operating voltage to just over 16V before it started to not respond to commands.

Any additional temperature from the card would solely be from more electronics increasing the ambient inside the box or other issues and bear in mind that if the card reached a level that would cause failure you would not be touching it or anything in its vicinity

Lastly, as we have the ever infamous 'Amstrad' building the boxes for the + range, I would consider the change in operating voltage voltage be a very long way off.

If you feel unhappy about this, add a fan or two

For B16MCC
Added a Ccam config file as you stated and manually adjusted this from the your config program printout, I can now have a great Crimbo with all the channels viewable.
Thanks, you have done the biz.

Have a good one
All the best

ralphmagno, I already answered this the first time you asked it in post 600. This is a very busy thread please read it carefully.

You can now use sly UK new white card caid 0963 directly in the Dreambox using CCcam 2.1.3. It is safe to use the internal card reader and the card updates properly. There is however, no way of knowing what changes may lie ahead.
A dreambox will return to its last channel upon reboot, and will reboot after a power failure.
You should never need to update the software unless sly make changes to the new card system.

What Box - Any Dreambox.
What CAM - No physical CAM required.
What software - CCcam 2.1.3

What do you mean by this ? 'will box update new sky softehere on the satellite?'

I self upgraded to HD a few weeks ago. Apparently they can't add HD to an existing card so have to issue a new one.
So now I have a normal card with the full package except for HD and another including HD. I'd like to try keep the original card from dying.
Is there any way of keeping entitlements coming into it and avoiding some sort of kill command?

Also I don't understand how they can't add the HD entitlements to an existing card. Is the 0963 HD card special in some way?

globopl:- it's most likely an entitlement issue. As CCcam cannot update the card in NewCS this is most likely your problem. Move your card to CCcam 2.1.3 and do away with NewCS.

4031283:-
Ok quick answer first. You won't keep the old card alive. No doubt, next entitlement update will kill it.

As for adding HD, was the old card 0961 or 0963 ?

The entitlements control the access of viewing for the card, the update will not kill the card just there will be no update for that serial number.

I have noticed that if you keep your card in a box or re-try it after the card change there seems to be a kill order sent immediately and constantly for a fair amount of time.
I left a card out and did not use it for a week, only to find that it did not open anything when it was re-inserted.

Additonal
As far as I understood from an intelligent engineer, the access key are controlled for the box and are switched on by the controller at Sly HQ.
Once paired, the card will then only accept additional access keys for HD.
The card has the ability to store all the necessary access / entitlement key updates for all services including the naughty ones for a considerable amount of time.

ralphmagno
If you only want ITV, the simplest way is to manually download for that sat frequency only and then edit the channel down to the single channel one you want.
The dreambox will only startup on this channel as it is the only one in the list.... you do not need a card the channel is FTA

If the dreambox is full of channels, you will need to restart to default settings to clear the memory.
