I am wanting to replace a polar mount that I constructed a number of years ago from gates hinges from the local Avon Faaarmers, and which is now just too rusty. (Marine environement)
I seek to find a source where I can buy one this time...
Its for a 2.4m diam solid one piece aluminium heavy precision Sci Atlanta dish.
It is is Ali but built like the proverbial brick .... house,
and it is in a very very windy location
so I seek a very sound / strong polar mount hence the title.
I of course use an acuator arm
as I have never seen a man's size disequc polar mount
I can make my own plate to fit the rings.
Perhaps I could recover one from a trashed outside broadcast ENG van?
I would even consider adapting own hydralics...(!)
Can any one help?
Cheers to you all out there...

My Satellite Setup
A little less analogue, and a lot more crap.
My Location
UK
Plenty of polarmounts for large dishes available in the Middle East. The main name would have been Ajak (for HtoH syle) or Paraclipse (standard polar)/ Hero(chaindrive)

Is the 2.4m a prime focus or offset ?

I would recommend the dual-axis EGIS rotor from Germany, it's a professional motor used on larger dishes, however it's a bit expensive but i think worth it for a DX:er.

Check it out here http://www.egis-rotor.de/Aroto_us.html

Likvid,

It looks very nice,
but have you seen the price?

My big gate hinges from "Avon Faaarmer"
would certainly be a better bank manager charmer.

Certainly, this would do if I want the best
but with a homer project "best" is not the only test...

Lingusitic note:
"aaa" is added to at least one word in every sentence
spoken by faaarmers in agricultural Devon (UK)
}

Thanks for your input ccc

You might still be able to purchase a GEOTRACK Dual Axis H-H Mount - Model KM1012 + HV 18K Actuator if you also would like elevation as well.

The last time I visited Doebis in Germany they still had a few in stock.
http://www.doebis.de/

I have two one of which is now almost three years old no problems other than modifing the original support shaft for the elevation piviot.

Normal cost is only approx 279 Euro trade.

if this is a heavier than normal dish, then I think none of the aformentioned motors with diagrams will be rather shortlived.

@ccc Have you thought about having your dream polarmount built to order ?

Yes I have.
I got the materials.
I half built it in stainless
but the lathe started to trip the current cut out
and the work stalled...

buying: offers a quick solution - I hope
