Regarding the abve subject what are the exact difference in technical terms between " Blind Scan " and " Auto Scan " .

I undersatand that " Blind Scan " means the ability of the receiver to scan all the avialable frequencies without inputing by the user any parameters such as the frequencies , symbol rates , polarities and FEC s the receiver will take care all of these parameters .

Also When you do Auto Scan in most receivers this feature will search automatically all the avialable frequencies without inputing any parameters by the user . It seem to me the above two features are the same .

Therefore there are new receivers in the market their features in their manuals they say they have these two features :
1 - Blind Scan
2 - Auto Scan
That's means these two features are not the same
Could you please explain the difference between the two

Best Regards

Hello al_madhi
I do not have the definitive answer to that however I suspect and only suspect that blind scan just scans everything in sight whereas in auto scan this can be set up to allow you to scan for just FTA channels or just encryted channels or both, but I may be wrong

Normally Auto Scan will search transponders which are in the receiver database and depending on the receiver will not need any symbol rates or FEC figures to do it. A Blind Scan will search every possible frequency and not require a database, SRs or FEC figures to do so.

a variety of lnb's (5), dishes (2), diseqc motors (3) and receivers (4).

East of Cambridge (GB).
From the Fort*c St*r Lifetime Ultra user manual.

Blind Search/Power Scan.
Sybol range can be set to Full, High or Low. High is greater than 7.5M and Low is less than 7.5M.
Polarity can be set to All, Vertical or Horizontal.
Hence for a full Blind Search/Power Scan, all frequencies, all symbol rates, all polarities and all FEC's will be scanned.

Feedback from Technom*te, TM100 series is very slow in blind search. Tm4100D or TM7650 are super fast and much faster than the Fort*c or Cosh*p.
From the TM1000series user manual.
Blind search * Note: Fast Search, it will take approximately 2 hours. Detail Search, , it will take approximately 7 hours.

Auto Scan is as per the post from rolfw.

Nothing out at the moment does a true auto scan. All of the branded receivers claiming real blindscan use a generic Korean system that only functions within the paramters given by the chipset in the receiver. Its a scam and the term is really the catchword for this time. Dont waste your money unless they offer 4.2.2 into the bargain .

Wait a few months for something that gives true blindscan, but in the meantime, buy a cheap spectrum analyser, or look at the websites of Lyngsat and TeleSatellite for the important bouquet parameters.

I've taken to going to the various websites (Lyngsat etc...) listing all the transponders on a satellite and manually adding them to my Technomate... I found that the Auto Scan and Blind Scan features in it both appear to find only a very small list of transponders carrying 24/7 commercial TV channels so I don't think either Blind/Auto really work unless you give the receiver some information to go on first.

BTW - Channel Hopper... The guys who installed my dish had a spectrum analyser and got the dish-pointing spot on across the arc within minutes... I'd wasted days trying to do it with a little bleeper gadget. I looked on ebay for spectrum analysers and they seem to be £900-£1200... should there be any cheaper ones than that... I remember being able to get cheap oscilloscopes that ran in software with a cheap PCI card... anything like that available for spectrum analysis???

I use Coship 3188 to do the search, you can specify frequency range and polarization. It does search in 3 MHz steps, by specifying start frequency you can search all Ku or C band ferquencies.

I have just read this thread because I am looking for a new receiver and was also curious as to the true definition of 'blind scan'.

My current receiver is a Technomate 5500-CIP Plus which I find to be awful so time for an upgrade. Recently I did bit of a dig to see what I missing out on and discovered that there are loads of transponders missing on my system and I really don't have time to start bashing them all in manually.

So am I right in understanding that currently there is no system that does a full blind scan and doesn't work off a database?

In a nutshell I want something that finds new transponders and all current transponders and also works with my Dragon cam. Maybe this is a tall order? So what would be the nearest equivalent?

Mucho feedback appreciated.

Cheers

the technomate 'super' range are the best at the moment for blind search as they have hardware blind search whereas the others use software blind search....so the techno's find the feeds much faster...only take me roughly 1-2 mins more on a satellite to do a blind search

A while back I bought a basic HUMAX FTA receiver at a car boot sale specifically to use for tuning in the BBCi streams. I was surprised that it would not find them unless I specified the PIDs manually. I like the idea of a Blind Scan that picks up absolutely everything - much better.

Valid comment, BP ................ but the Thread went snoozy nearly six years ago!

If nobody else pipes up with updating info, I think we might close this one.
