I think you should have mentioned F15/F16 receivers as well. I still find them very good for fringe reception and are STILL the only receivers, which will show your SNR level when under lock.

Agreed I did have a F15 a couple of years ago til I gave it to my Sister for FreeSat on 19.2E & 28.2E So I will add them to the list.

Best Satellite Receivers for Feed Hunting an update thanks for Captain Jacks contribution:)

The top 6 are the best for Feed Hunting as they do not overwrite found low symbol rate (SCPC = Single Channel Per Carrier) transponders all have a range of 800 to 45,000 with no errors in found transponders,

1/TM5502HD CI
2/TM5302HD
3/Spiderbox HD9000
4/SpiderboxHD9900
5 & 6 are DrHD F15/F16 very good for fringe reception and are STILL the only receivers, which will show your SNR level when under lock. Thanks to Captain Jack for the feed back,

These are also good for Feed Hunting but will overwrite some SCPC transponders in close proximity all have a range of 800 to 45,000 with no errors,
7/TM6900HD Super+
8/TM6902HD T2

These are good for Feed Hunting but will overwrite some SCPC transponders in close proximity all have a range of 800 to 45,000 they also have an error when some low symbol rates are found the receiver adds a symbol rate of 45,000,
9/TM5402HD M1
10/TM5402HD M2

Best of the rest:-
11 & 12 are theTM-F3/5 & TM5402HD M3 Good Blind scan does not overwrite SCPC but has a data base error that adds more transponders than exists on a satellite 42 east,26 east,16 east are a typical example,

13/AZBox Premuim+ Good but slow blind scan with 4:2:2 capability unfortunately due to the introduction of MPEG-4 4:2:2 codec this receiver is virtually obsolete now,

14/TM1500CI Super+ not used very often now but I cannot part with it despite only able to resolve SD.

I have tried a couple of Linux receivers but they are not suitable in my opinion for Feed Hunting the Blind Scans do not pick up all active transponders that the TM5502HD does.

TBS 6983 Professional DVB-S2 Dual Tuner PCIe Card & TBS5925 DVB-S2 Digital High Definition USB2.0 TV Box
Both of these are used by members here for Satellite Feed Hunting

I just ordered a 5922SE USB "card" - mainly because it was cheap and works with CrazyScan.

As mention in other threads NS3 is being used more frequently for some feeds as is 4:2:2 MPEG-4 this is leaving my receivers blind to some transmissions with no stand alone enthusiasts on the horizon to cover these new developments in satellite broadcasting

I could add satellite pc cards
TBS6983 Professional DVB-S2 Dual Tuner PCIe Card seems the best for my desktop
TBS5925 DVB-S2 TV Tuner USB may be a good place to start with my Sony Laptop

The chances of covering all transmissions seems very remote as NS3 is a game changer  as is H265 but there is
TBS2603 HD H.264/H.265 HDMI Video Encoder now but if the transmission is in H265 4:2:2 :eek: you will not see it even if it was FTA

No wonder the mass market production just concentrates on the DTH satellites 42 east,28 east,23.5 east,19 east,16 east,13 east ect as this is easy pickings NS3 requires reverse engineering not easy,

Feed hunting has had a few breaks over the last 15 years with the SD Blind Scan receivers then HD Blind Scan Receivers :D then we got lucky with the failure of Quali-TV QS1080IR Satellite Receiver when they switched to HD there was a large number of Quali-TV QS1080IR Satellite Receiver dumped on the market the only appeal was 4:2:2 SD DVB-S transmissions for a couple of years this was useful but the more transmissions switched to DVB-S2 HD 4:2:2 another game changer along came AZBox P+ a Blind Scan 4:2:2 receiver that also covered DVB-S2 unfortunately this was short lived with the advent of 4:2:2 MPEG-4 & additional codecs changes that the AZBox cannot cope with  back to square one as no further satellite receiver advances have been made so looks like the TBS5925 may be the only alternative route let's hope that NS3 does not get too popular with SNG's :-rofl2
