The recommendation from the couple living on a boat made me laugh, I wonder if they burnt to death or drowned

Hot on the heels of the Livington heater comes another H+S conundrum, the Chop Star.

Actually, hygiene issues apart (they can be dealt with), the Chop Star does look quite a useful kitchen tool - might see if I can get one for the wife for Xmas.
OTOH, that heater looks "****ing" dangerous

It is a brave man who would give that as a present to his wife for Christmas, you could wake up on Boxing day as a John Bobbit Mk2

A satellite channel that the other half watches is promoting these socket mounted heaters with a digital timer. A heater that is 'designed' to hang from a two pin socket at a fixed point on the wall, supposedly to adequately warm up a 20m squared area. The TV advert shows, or infers fitting in bathrooms.......

The Amazon verdicts

This wall heater made in China will burn your house down..the thermostat will cut the fan off but the heat coil remains on..beware.

BestMarket are currently capitalising on thiis product called the Arctic Air.

which is an evaporative cooling system with filters - that apparently cost more than the cooler itself.

Reviews , not good, but since it runs off the USB it is less likely to burn one's house down, though some mention the water can and does escape, so who knows ?

Might just about cool the air around the PC - think how "warm" those USB coffee cup holders manage to get, or how much air gets shifted by USB desk fans!

Earlier in the week, I saw this product on one of the shopping channels. Has an 'awesome swivel function'.

Oh dear !

These "things" have been hawked around on the internet & video shopping channels for years - often with many "very negative" comments, and frankly they look pretty damned dangerous to me - 500W claimed dissipation in a box about twice the size of a wall wart USB charger (the latter are generally rated 5V 2.1A max output = 10.5W)! :(.

Anyway, how the hell you would expect 500W (if it is really even that!) to heat a room that is probably below local ambient to start with is beyond me as you'd need at least 3000W, and preferably a lot more, to result in ANY significant rise in that temperature!

Anyone know where you can buy the Livington Chop Star or very similar - useful in a small kitchen without having to find room for a chopping board? Mefiashop do not seem to list it any longer on their site and none on ebay or Amazon

Peeps will continue to buy them , based on the promo.

A small room, perhaps would be warmed up, but you may as well rip out the eco light device and plug in a 100W tungsten bulb, once you find :
your flat screen television,
the desktop computer,
the laptop,
the android,
the iPad,
the Wii/Sony/XBox games console,

plus all the chargers to go with the above aren't throwing the same amount of power out as heat.
