Is there any rule about not digging too old posts? I hope not...
Well, I made a conversion on a Smart Tit (3rd edition) TWIN. I bought 2 samples, one is still unmodified. I have a 180cm prime focus dish with specific C120 feedhorn. I have also near by a standard offset 110 cm to compare LNBFs (I have a lot of them...).
I should have compared the Smart Titanium TWIN with the single I have. I fact, the two samples of smart singles (also 3rd edition) give me outstanding results on the 110 cm offset dish. Even the Invacom was no match (test using only low band on ASTRA 2E /2F as this is fringe for me). Unfortunately I was so excited to do the C120 mod on the Smart Titanium TWIN that I did not compare it with the lot (prior to conversion). I should have!
So my issues are:
- My other sample of the smart twin ( still un-modded) gives me lousy (very lousy) results on the 110 cm dish. Even a 10 year Televes LNBF can beat it.
- However, the one that is converted is giving interesting results on the 180cm PF dish. A little better than the Invacom single I had before.
- I noticed on spectrum analyzer a very large spike on the low end of band from this Smart Twin. This seems leakage from the local oscillator of some kind. The other sample is the same.
- Nevertheless, no other smart titanium from the other 4 singles I have (2 3rd ed, 2 classic) present such high spike. This is filterable via a SAT + Terrestrial diplexer (not all diplexers are created equal, says the Spectrum Analyzer...) from Manata (MS-720).
So, my main doubt is this:
- Does anyone know if the Smart TWIN is significant worse than the single, or did I just have a bad luck on my 2nd sample?
If this thread is too old, please point me to a suitable one regarding LNBs, specially for Prime Focus antennas.
