Finally got around to blowing dust off old receivers, still working fine (Vantage 8000's, produced in 2007 !), time to safecopy & clean up recordings from years ago, before anything happens with hd etc, much interesting stuff showing up. Did not find time watching it then, and probably not now :O) (but maybe this xmas... or xmas in 5 years).

And yes, as one can clearly see on the photo, it's snowing outside and got no roof on my country house, never afforded that cause spent all the money on satellite equipment, computers, mobile phones etc etc

I suspect their lack of advertising did not give the vantage any kind of advantage I'll get my coat

Am always amazed by any electronics that keep on working 100% year after year past any expected lifecycle. Currently been using this Vantage 8000 for a few weeks for fta on some sats. This one is produced aug 2008, last software 2012.

Excellent picture, fast, everything works, & the HD dated 2010 is doing fine. Only sign of ageing is text on remote buttons fading away after a million clicks. Compared to modern boxes, it's fun to comtemplate that myriad of components & chips that were needed at the time.

Yes, it's not often I replace anything within a decade of use, the EV8000 was almost retired over Christmas, but removing the dust from inside has given it a new lease of life and she is still a reliable old girl tthat the whole family can operate without getting frustrated.

I've just received notice one of the 7100s may have met its maker. Will collect tomorrow to see what the issue is but the note here is 'no picture, no display, lights on panel buttons only'.

It will be interesting to see what the back panel was like, from memory it was fully loaded with ports.

In addition to the usual LNB input/output are SATA and USB ports for PVR upgrades – also present are Ethernet and RS232 ports for updating firmware and exchanging databases.
