Hi , ppl there are many kinds of paints , but I heard that there are special paints suitable for painting dishes such as that the paint must not contains lead in its contents . In all paints stores in the markets there are no paints witten on them that these paints are suitable for painting dishes . Therefore can anybody tell me how to distinguish which one of them is suitable for painting dishes , Or if there is any particular brand suitable for painting dishes . Please advice .

Any thought you would have be greatly appreciated .

Best Regards

Avaoiding lead free paint is for your own safety- you dont really want to be inhaling particulate matter from a lead paint!.

Matt car paint will be fine.

Hi, I painted mine with green undercoat (mat finish) some ten years ago, still OK, your location suggests lots of sun, hence gloss paintwould could focus sun on LNB, what about mat emulsion to blend with surroundings, you will be surprised how tough this paint is.
Chris.

I've used commercial vehicle grade cellulose, it is not high gloss and most sellers can make up a specific colour and will put it in an aerosol can for you.:)

I don't know wether it is still sold by car parts shops Half**ds or simmilar but you could 'one time' get a good choice of colours from there in spray cans.

Chris.
Sprayed mine with a mixture of red primer and green top coat in a roughly diagonal "camouflage" pattern as it down the garden near some trees. Sprayed the face, the arm, the LNB (except the cap) AND also the back because it is fixed to a pole standing in the garden and so people can see the back.

Quite effective!:)

Here are a few I took "earlier"
;)

And, yes, the LNBF is mounted upside down because it was the only way I could bodge the mounting to get a Sharp "White" unit close enough to the focal point of my old NEC dish (which had a non-standard LNBF fitment)!

Gaze on this and be aghast - but it works on 58E to 45W on 30m of cable (with an inline amp) and gives very good results!

The shiny horizontal bit of metal is a piece of car-exhaust perforated zinc strapping, doubled over, and the clamps include a car-exhaust clamp, a Jubillee clamp and a few nylon tiewraps"

And its been like that for nearly 2 years now without any problems (or water ingress)

a) The four dishes at the bottom of the garden - between my garage on the right and my neighbour's garage on the left.

 60cm Dish aimed at Astra 2 for my Sky+
[It works better than a Zone 1 Dodgy box dish. It is behind the big black dish you can just see in the centre right of a). The black dish is not currently aligned or painted]

c) 80cm Dish aimed at 30W
[in fact, this old Amstrad mesh dish used to belong to my neighbour until he got a dodgybox system!]

Rolfe - Thanks for that! Had to correct the order of the list above to match the new order of the photos!

That looks like the Grundig Twin LNB I have on my indoor dish, only mine has 2 strips of black Duct tape on it (cos I opened up the plastics to see inside, but was beaten by the metal casing!!!) and mine is fitted upside-down... :D

Yes, from memory it is a Grundig unit! It was left over from the earlier time when I a dual LNB on my steerable dish for both Astra and the old NEC 5000 receiver. Again, this LNB was mounted on an earlier version of the Heath Robinson mount, and the dish was mounted on the flat top of the bay-window at the front of the house.
(A pig to get to, and the holes for the mount finally let rainwater into the bedroom!)

That's a pretty good picture actually, but it did take a couple of looks for me to notice there's 2 dishes there.... :D

I suppose Plastikote is ok if it has no metal content, however, I would recommend moving the plants off the dish faces otherwise they may cause a few signal problems...
