The DVD release of this compendium of five stories is probably one of the best of its genre.
It starts, with an opening sequence, with five men, Tom Baker, Daniel Massey, Michael Craig, Curt Jurgens, and Terry Thomas, getting into an office lift.
The lift reaches the bottom floor, and is stuck there. The doors open to what is a grand dining area, with a circular table, with wine and food on the table...for five people. Hmm...
There's no messing about as the five men, who all agree to wait until the lift is repaired, swap their nightmares with each other.
If you haven't seen this horror film, I won't go into detail about the stories, suffice to say, they're all good, highly inventive, and not too long to get you bored.
My favourites were Daniel's Massey's and Tom Baker's, but like I say, the remainder are also very compelling. Comedy star Terry Thomas' tale is goulish but raises a tickle at the end. As you'd expect!
As a matter of interest, Daniel's real sister, Anna Massey, plays his sister in his story. And while we're about Daniel's nightmare, you see something at the end of his story on DVD you do not see in the cut-down TV version. Send me a pm if you want to know what it is.
Overall, a watchable and enjoyable horror flick, despite being made with limited funds and a three-week shooting schedule. Just one month after its release, Tom scored another success, by being named the fourth TV Dr Who.
The DVD in itself is very basic, no extras to speak of, but it's the full, uncut version, and it's a nice collector's item, if you're into British 1970s horror.
I give it 8 out of 10.
