I was browsing the "Global media box" section at another site (sorry) and saw some of the new posts about this box, went to look at this box on the web (Searched with Google) and found their web site, when I opened it a warning popped up about a problem with windows, (ransomware) it popped up with a message that said I was to log into my router with a login screen that was asking for a user name and password for the router, and it would not let me close the screen or my browser....OOOpppps I hit the power off button and restarted in safe mode then did every scan I could for this problem, "Super Anti-Sypware" found a program that the others (Avast and Malwarebytes) did not, it was adware.(sorry don't have a program name for it, no scan log was created)

But the problem was not detected by any of the AV/Malware/Spyware or Ransomware software on this PC, it may be something new??????

Why was it detected as adware and not as ransomware???

WARNING do not go to the Global Media Box website unless your AV/Malware and Spyware definitions are up to date or you are using some form of anti ransomware software.

Maybe the adware was just that - adware - and the pop-up was only a ruse to get you to log in to the router and open it up for whoever was running the pop-up?

Well I'm not going back to that site to test it out, never seen a ransomware ask for a router name and password, could it have detected somehow the other 20 devices on my network??

Anyway it's gone now.(from this PC, checking the others now)

Have to say I use super-Antispyware every once in a while and last time it found something not picked up on Avast or Defender

I use Spybot a couple of times each month, and it also finds things overlooked by others.

I've found that there is not one program that will detect everything out there, that's why I use 3, one for AV, one for Malware and one for Spyware, then as a cleanup I use CCleaner.

To do the best cleanup as possible do the following
Download :rkill, junkware removal tool, and adwcleaner and save to your computer, or do this on another computer ( if you think your system is severly compromised) and save to a usb drive.
Disconnect your internet connection
Run the programs in the order you downloaded them above, and this should remove most of the heavy crap that we all get.
At the moment as I am on this site there is 9 attempts to collect data, from Facebook, Twitter, Google
and Skimbit have 4 beacons on me.
Run Malwarebytes in safe mode and it often picks up crap it does not see in normal mode

I always do the scrubs in safe mode, or if I think they are severely infected I remove the hard drive a scrub it on my test bed.
