Hi,

I am sorry for asking what might be a very stupid question but I am struggling to find answers on-line. I am interested in purchasing TIvusat system/box/card to be able to watch Italian TV in UK. So far all places which see these advertise around 30 channels on their websites while actual Tivusat website advertises around 55 channels is there a reason for such discrepancy?

Also under any circumstances I feel it is a bit excessive to pay over £350 for only 30-55 channels. Since Tivusat is carried by Hotbird would I be able to watch other channels carried by Hotbird or do I need to have another box/card/subscription?

Thanks

Several of the channels listed on the Tivusat site are free channels so you dont pay for them at all - they are just "padding" to make the offer look better.

RAI 1 2 & 3 are free unless they are showing movies or sport

If you just want Italian channels there are a couple of hundred free ones on 13E - ok many of them are pretty low budget but most of the regional channels are clear.

If you have friends / relatives in Italy you can half the price you have to pay for the equipment / card.

It's not so expensive to acquire the receiver and the card.
They cost from about 80 to 120 £ (depending on which receiver you select) and an activation is required to use the card.

Not in the UK they don't!

Double or triple that.

Obtaining access to a Codice Fiscale through a third-party attracts a considerable premium!

Hi,

I was thinking to go for one of the deals from SatEuropa. I also have Codice Fiscale. However do not have an Italian address, unless I use the friends the one, but for all the inconvenience I do not know whether it is worth it. I think we are mostly interested in Mediaset 1 and 5 if I am not mistaken and I guess any baby/kids channels would also be an advantage.

My main issue is that I am completely new to Satellite TV, so I am not entirely sure what do I need. I guess I need a new dish, Card for Tivu and a receiver - do I need any additional equipment if I want to watch other channels carried by Hotbird Satellite.

Sorry for asking stupid/obvious questions.

Just to summarise few questions I have:

What equipment do I need to get, can I install it myself or best to get local aerial/satellite installer?

Is any of the deals offered by SatEurope worth it seeing that I have got Codice Fiscale, or it is better to order it through Italian Friends etc...
Which receiver box should I look for, or any will do? Do I need just one or do I need a specific one for Tivusat and something elso for other channels?

Thanks

You will require

either a 2nd dish aligned at 13E OR an offset lnb on your existing dish (depends exactly what you have and a 2nd dish is normally easier for beginners if you go the DIY route)

cabling to the required location for the 13E receiver

a receiver - various ones available from Linux boxes that use internal softcams to read the card (not guaranteed to work for ever) to the official Tivu boxes. I use my Tivusat card in a Dreambox 7020 which works quite nicely atm, but could stop working at any time..

Where to purchase from is up to you - both have their pros & cons.

It would help if you say roughly where you are in the UK a 60cm dish will do in most places but is not ideal everywhere.

The TIvusat boxes are basically the same kind of thing as the Sky boxes, you plug it in and it sets it self up through the data and epg sent via the satellite.

Thanks for your replies!

I live in Cheshire, Congleton. I guess I cannot use my existing Sky Dish and will need to install additional one to point at 13E, still will pay someone to dot he job, feels like a sensible thing to do.

I guess simplier thing to do is to go for UK sold package so I am in between these 2 boxes from SatEuropa

TIVUSAT Italy Card and HUMAX HD5600S HD Receiver (Pre-Activated)

TIVUSAT Italy Card and i-CAN 1850S HD Receiver (Pre-Activated)

Can you please advise which one of these is better and whether I will be able to watch other channels (not TivuSat) with any of these? or will be it be 30-50 odd Tivusat channels and that is it.

Thanks

In the 5600 description

Access to TivùSat, and many other satellite channels in the clear

Nothing similar on the ican description, but give the lads at SatEuropa a ring and ask them - they wont mind.

Thanks, you are right! should have spotted it myself, just feel so out of depth with this. Cannot believe I have a degree in Telecommunications (Just a piece of paper now).

Will give them a call tomorrow and perhaps arrange a local installer as well.

Cheers

Check if you can use the usb socket with a hard drive or usb memory stick as a pvr as you may want to make timer recordings. I think you can with the Humax.
