Hi all,

I'm trying to get my TNTSAT box working. I bought it approximately 5 years ago and it used to work just fine, but I stopped using it about 3 years ago when there was a problem with my dish.

I want to get this up and running again, so yesterday I got a guy in who changed the LNB and realigned the dish to 19.2E. We confirmed the signal was good and saw some FTA transmissions using his diagnostic equipment.

However now when I connect my decoder, it just says no signal. I do have a little satellite signal/meter and if I connect that in line it beeps and also shows a good signal, so I'm confident there is a good signal coming from the lnb/dish.

Can someone advise what the configuration settings should be, that I need to have in place on my decoder to get the TNTSAT channels?

The decoder is a SAGEM TNTSAT (ISD91) (link). In the settings there are two pages for configuration:

LNB installation

Alimentation LNB YES/NO (Currently Yes)
Frequence basse 09750
Frequence haute 10600

Transponder installation

Modulation DVB-S/DVB-S2 (Currently DVB-S)
Polarisation Vertical
Frequence 11856
Debit 27500

The box certainly used to work, however I don't know if there have been any changes in the transmissions since the box was working last, so I don't know if these are still correct? Could someone confirm what they should be?

On a separate, but possibly related subject, I should have a valid viaaccess card (it is not due to expire until the end of 2018). However the box does displays a message saying the period of validity for the card has changed and it now expires 01/01/1970!

I'm working on the principle that even if the card was invalid, that shouldn't prevent the box from receiving a signal, however maybe it doesn't work like that? I am due to be in France at the end of July, so I can request a new ViaAccess if necessary and collect that in a few weeks. If that is the problem, maybe I need to wait until I get a new card and leave the transponder configuration alone?

Any thoughts?

Many thanks

Jason

According to King Of Sat, that transponder should be set to : DVB S2 and debit 29700. Despite living in France, I haven't a TNTSAT box, so am a bit in the dark about how to set it up.

If that old the channel database must be outdated (the move to HD dvbs2, new frequencies), try a complete reset and a fresh scan.

Assuming it's pointing at correct sat and the box working, a scan for non-tntsat channels should get all the german etc programs.

And even if getting the tnt frequencies, the card is maybe too old to decode them ?

If going to France, maybe pick up a 'fresh' box \ 4 years card at som lowprice sale, sometimes very inexpensive. Not the best boxes (slow and underpowered) but imo they are fine for watching programs and doing simple recording tasks (but encrypted). And users seems very happy with good picture quality (incl me with my cheap Philips\Sagem).

Thanks for the replies. Changing to DVB-S2 and the debit to 29700 was exactly it. Immediately a full signal was shown in the decoder and a channel search then got all the channels. Now just need to get the new Via access card.
Thanks

Hi All,
So I thought this had been resolved in principle because I could see all the FTA German channels. I got back from my trip to France yesterday with the shiny new ViaAccess card and popped it into the decoder. Now I get a slightly different problem. If I try to select one of the TNTSAT channels, I get the message:

Le terminal n'est pas correctement configure. Veuillez contacter votre operateur pour plus d'information.

So basically it says the decoder isn't configured correctly. I've been through the configuration and performed another complete reset and installation, to retune all the channels. I've checked that the changes mentioned in the above posts have been made (without them I get no channels). I've been through all the other settings available, changing them to see if it makes any difference, but no.

The channels themselves appear to be tuned in, I was asked what region I wanted for F3, etc, and the channels appear in their correct positions. I can see all the guide information showing what is on but if I select one of these channels, I get the above message from the decoder and once dismissed there is no picture or sound.

Any other thoughts on what might be causing this or any other configuration changes on the LNB or transponder I should look at?

Could someone also post a link to good article that explains what all the LNB and transponder settings mean, why I might (or might not) change them, and how they relate to the various settings on sites like KingOfSat?

Thanks

Jason

It's unlikely at this stage to be anything to do with LNB or dish, as the channels are clearly there. Perhaps the card isn't updated or activated?

^^^ yes, old boxes won't cut it. Am assuming you got a HD box. Do a scan for TNT sat (not the free channels), check the card validity period (to see it it's been recognized, should show july 2022), then keep the box on for a while with the card inserted, and see if the channels clear after some time.

Thanks for the replies.
Yes it had occurred that the transition to HD had caused some incompatibility, however the box copes with HD (its why I bought that specific model all those years ago), so that shouldn't be an issue.
The Via Access card appears to be working, I can pull up the menu and it clearly shows the subscription (Class 0) with a start date of the 30th July (when I inserted it) and end date of 30th July 2022. Its been on now for about 48 hours, with the card inserted so I don't think any additional length of time is likely to do anything.
The link to the post about the software update is interesting. It talks about an over the air update that caused issues. However the software version on the box says it is a later version, v5.7.8, not the 5.2.2b that the post talks about.

I tried phoning the tntsat technical support line, but the phone won't connect. It is a 08 number so presumably that only works from within France.
I'm thinking the only way to proceed now is to take the box with me, back to France, and connect it up to a dish in France. If it all works just fine there, then maybe it is some bizarre incompatibility with the LNB I have just put on. However assuming the same message appears in France, we can perhaps phone the tntsat number and/or the sagem technical assistance number from the back of the manual. I don't hold up much hope for that, but I suppose it is the only thing to do. If all that fails, I'll just have to buy another decoder.

Thanks

Jason

^^^ if contacting them, you live \ have address in France. If managing to reach them by phone from any non'F number, I'm sure one would get the same amount of useful help as I'd get if calling Freesat or Sky from Norway and complaining about satellite footprints etc lol+++

------------------

So the card is good. And as you get the German's, and I suppose BBC news, CNN and the 100+ others with a useable level the dish\lnb is ok, and if the HD channels also shows up fine, the box itself must be in working order, at least for any FTA.

Somewhere in that receiver, there should (maybe?) be a menu allowing scan of individual transponders. Try it with the exact settings as in the posted picture (Philips\Sagem TNT box. If your box asks for FEC, it's 2/3) and tell us what you see, and what happens after launching the scan.

Just thinking out loud, if one polarity of the LNB is on the blink, either through a duff unit, or the receiver failing to drive both voltages from the psu, then it might not find the network transponder for the French channels.

The same might occur with a failed 22kHz detection.

Yes I suppose that's a good point, if I am going to phone them, probably best to wait until I'm in France...

Yes all the FTA channels are working, and they are appearing in HD (where appropriate), it is just an issue with the TNTSAT ones.

I tried changing the frequency as you suggested (there was no option for the FEC). It immediately did a search for channels and then displayed a message saying:

"Aucune chaine de l'offre de service TNTSAT n'a ete trouvee".

So it couldn't find any TNTSAT channels, which is a bit wierd. The way this box works is the auto scan only searches for TNTSAT channels. There is an additional global search function that will search and store all available channels. So I ran that, and it found 370+ channels, mostly all of which are German FTA above channel 1000. However the TNTSAT channels were again stored in their correct position, and again don't work. I should probably caveat that by saying the FTA TNTSAT channels work, so that would be LCP, LCI, RMC decouver and Cherie 25, they are just fine, but selecting any of the other channels just displays the message from my previous post saying that the configuration isn't correct.

Note that initially this morning the decoder wouldn't switch on and I noticed that the box had hung (with the time locked at 02:06). That is the 2nd time it has hung overnight. I know that some of the older boxes would notoriously hang, but I wonder if there is a problem with the box...

Just remembered. There was a specific upgrade required for the Strong box on the platform that you had to get from their website and update via a formatted USB stick.

Thanks, yes I thought about that but there are no updates for this box when I checked on the sagem website.

... looks like sometimes it pays to buy new\recent equipment, tnt watching after 1 minute from 1st ever boot.

About the scan, how was the 12168 V Signal\Quality reading ?

The receiver you have is a ten year old design, it is unlikely to be fully compatible with modern transmissions without an upgrade.

Yes the signal was absolutely fine. Well, more than fine, 100% very strong.
