The receiver you have is a ten year old design, it is unlikely to be fully compatible with modern transmissions without an upgrade.

The current version appears to be quite recent, judging by the post linked to from a few years ago. That referred to v 5.2.2 from a few years ago and this is at v5.7.8. I've never manually upgraded it, so presumably it has upgraded over the air. However it is a fair point. I guess I've proven that the hardware and configuration (generally) is ok because the other FTA channels all work, etc. Presumably it is something that has changed within ViaAccess.

I will give them a call to see if I can get any official answer when I am in France (just over a week from now...yey), but I am now resigned to picking up another decoder while I am there. Just another annoying cost I was trying to avoid...

That might be.
I didn't see USB port or even serial port in the specs, though, so he might be dependent on OTA updates.
That seems to be the way, from what I see in the links.

A little less analogue, and a lot more crap.

Yes, but some receivers required a 'nudge' to get them to start updating by satellite, hence the USB update.

That's the Sagem version of the Philips I've got and using regularly, definitely not an enthusiast box, slow boot etc, but excellent picture, good reception. Basically a very good box to view the intended channels + a collection of other 19e stuff, but not good to play with satellites as hobby.

And 50 £ is not much to pay to avoid more trouble and weeks of wasted time with the old box :O) Am supposing there are zero restrictions moving card form one box to another, have no experience doing that.
