On September 4, France Telecom and multichannel providerTPS announced a strategic agreement whereby TPS will launch digital TV servicesin December 2003 on the France Telecom ADSL network. Access control and rights management to secure the content distribution will be provided byViaccess through its Viaccess-VOD solution.

Just as the Viaccess Conditional Access System safeguards digital linear program and pay-per-view services, Viaccess-VOD protects on-demand services for delivery on cable and DSL networks.

Viaccess-VOD offers an end-to-end secure solution from the operator’s head-end where Viaccess content protection solutions are deployed to the set-top box located at the consumer’s premises. With this end-to-end approach, content providers can guarantee right owners that their video contents are strongly safeguarded and that copy protection isenforced on video servers and within the network.

Viaccess-VOD gives full flexibility to multichannel providers as they may combine different ways of selling contents (100% or partly pay content, subscription, pay-per-title, push to harddisk or PVR) and set up different limitations of programs viewing (single session, time limit with specific date, time limit based on first session date, maximum number of sessions, maximum length of a session). With this variety of purchase modes and entitlements, cable and DSL operators can develop a wide range of segmented on-demand services and generate incremental revenues.

Viaccess-VOD will be demonstrated on the Viaccess booth 1-149 at IBC 2003.
