A meteor has only destroyed one satellite, which was the European Space Agency's Olympus in 1993

In 1983, a Japanese artist, Tadahiko Ogawa, made a copy of the Mona Lisa completely out of ordinary toast

Very nice.
I particularly liked the factoid "The average person spends two weeks of their life kissing." I still remember mine. It was in spring 1973. Since then it's been downhill all the way.

* Trabant is the German word for satellite.

Ehh, that site sucks, the whole site is a big joke, and trabant is definately not the word for satellite in german, the german word is as simple as: "satellit"

I heard that Olympus was broke by some over enthusiastic ground technician that tried to relocate one of the antennae on board and ended up pushing the orientation of the satellite panels away from the sun, causing it to drift when the batteries finally died

They did catch it and turn it back on after a year or so , but nothing was really salvageable. Nobody has any confirmation as to what happened to the technician

er, "trabant" IS German for satellite. It's not the ONLY word for it, but it most definitely IS one of them... go check your dictionary.

PS you're right about the joke bit. But after all, that's what it sets out to be. So big success then.

May be so. Interestingly, the East German car "Trabant" was named in honour of the Soviet "Sputnik" satellite...

And the Trabant is still a stinky car...

Nobbly 1 point !!!!
I found this
trabant may mean "satellite" just as "sputnik" in Russian(=road companion more or less)
and a satellite is kind of a space companion to its planet...
and a Trabant a road companion...
