Yesterday, we took receipt of our shiny new living room furniture, which included a TV stand. The issue with it is that the centre speaker is just a tad too big and blocks a little bit of the TV screen - especially when slouching on the sofa.

I guess what's needed is some kind of an elegant wood spacer to lift the TV up an inch or so but can't really find one. Yes, I can make one myself or just put old books/DVDs/VHS tapes underneath but it would defeat the object of new furniture!

Anyone know know where I can get one... or some other creative ideas?

How about a cut down butchers block, suitably stained or polished? Other than that, do you know anyone who's recently had solid wood kitchen counter tops fitted and has had to cut out a rectangle for the hob?

Good idea - was hoping for something "ready made" but that would be the next best step.

I know it's in a corner, but would mounting the TV on a moveable wall bracket be possible?.....or even aesthetically acceptable...

A little less analogue, and a lot more crap.

Use a router to carve a speaker-shaped crater into the cabinet top, a depth of 2cms should do it.

That is also something I thought about but cable management/hiding would be a nightmare. All, except 1 HDMI ports are being used.

I wouldn't trust my crooked arms to do anything like that! And SWMBO would castrate me if I ruin her new furniture...

...I wasn't thinking you'd mount it much further up than it already is (mine is on a cantilever bracket which copes with a corner) and as such most of the cabling wouldn't be too visible..

Let me have a chat with the queen. She was making noises something akin to "it's not too bad" earlier...

what you need is a solid wooden drawer upside down ..
..from an old piece of furniture ..
I've done this myself in the past..to raise up the TV plinth ..
just a thought..

Excellent idea VS, but looking at the photo I just wonder in the table is deep enough for a drawer and the speaker in front...

How deep is the sound bar? Would its construction be up to supporting the TV if you placed the TV on top of it?

Another thought CJ, what's the stand that supports the TV like? Is it viable enough to drill into and mount rubber feet long enough to raise it above the speaker?

Thanks for all the suggestions - all good!

@PaulR - it's a proper old-school centre speaker made out of wood (or wood chips!). Unfortunately, it's not big enough to have the TV on top - we tried - and the cat will very quickly bring it all crashing down.

@sonnetpete - it's some hard plastic. Don't like the idea of drilling but maybe stick-on feet will be enough?

Stick the central speaker vertically down the side of the unit and move the side speakers out a bit to compensate.

Alex! If I were you I would hang TV on the wall mount, that is option #1. Second option is to make 2 triangular shape plates (one for TV and another one for soundbar) and fix them permanently in the corner of the room, then you would have free up space on the top of the cupboard. Option #3 could be to use Wooden (Cube) Risers, I could help you out with manufacturing them from oak, ash-tree or apple-tree. You pay only shipment.

Correction: I would prefer to make Wooden Risers (not a Cube ones )
